Year 3/4 News

Welcome back to Term 3!

Term 3 has officially started and we couldn't be happier that the students are back and ready to learn! We know it may not have been the start that we had all hoped for, but we are grateful to have such a committed and supportive school community. We will continue our learning online, offering as much support as we can. We will be running maths, reading and writing clinics, as well as a support zoom each day. You can also reach out through Google Classroom if you or your child needs any additional support. We look forward to a fantastic Term 3!

Learning in Year 3/4 and How to Support Your Child at Home.

So what can you do to support your child with their learning during lockdown or simply when at home?

  • Have a routine and setting expectations.
  • Make sure your child has a space to work in.
  • Provide a level of supervision suitable to your child’s stage of development and individual needs.
  • Monitor communications from teachers.
  • Check in with your child often to help them manage and pace their work.
  • Monitor how much time your child is spending online.
  • Have conversations about what they are learning.

Italian

This term, students have been practising how to ask for something in Italian

eg. Posse avere il maglione/il capello/il libro/la matita?

They have also been learning incidental language in the classroom such as allora, va bene and tutto bene.

Writing

Over the last few weeks, students have been exploring poetry. They have investigated different types of poetry, including common features and appropriate

structure, experimented with word play and written a range of poetry to entertain the reader.

This week, students have been focusing on figurative language including similes, metaphors and personalisation.

Maths

In maths, during week 1 the students have been continuing to develop their knowledge of multiplication and division. They have explored a range of mental and written strategies and have consolidated their understanding through independent tasks.
