Years One/Two News

Term Three Curriculum information

This term in Reading, students in Years One and Two will work on strengthening their ability to summarise and retell a text, using the most important information from the beginning, middle and end of the book. They will develop a deeper understanding of the characters in the texts they read, by exploring the characters’ traits and feelings. They will also explore the use of questioning and connecting strategies to help them make meaning from text.

In Writing, students are beginning the term with a focus on the Narrative genre. They will develop their understanding of the text features of narratives including characters, setting and plot, as well as using the Seven Steps strategies such as Sizzling Starts to help engage their audience. In the second half of the term, the focus will shift to descriptive writing. This will involve the seven elements of the description bubble (colour, number, size, shape, position, feeling and doing).

Our Maths focus has begun with an emphasis on location (giving and following directions, and understanding simple maps), place value and counting. As the term continues, we also plan to explore time, multiplication, division, mass, area and capacity.
