"One thing I wish my coaches knew about me that would help them coach me better is..."

Want to know how challenging it is to be a coach? Have a read of these responses from our students from last year's lockdown.

"I think that my coach can teach me better if the coach knew my playstyle and overall personality because the coach can know what position is best for the player."

"Something that would help coach me better is if I could practice at training playing as a central defensive midfielder, this is the position I have been playing at my club, obviously I’m happy to play any position but I feel learning how to play more positions will help me become a better and more versatile player. "

"Getting feedback individually, how to work to my fullest even if I’m not feeling great that particular day. But I also understand there are many kids in the program and it would be hard to individually tell each player on what to work on."

"One thing I wish coaches knew about me that would help you coach better is that I enjoy playing every position and if you need a spare player to play anywhere on the pitch, I am here to help."

"One thing I would like my coaches to know about me is that I want to work on my left passing a lot more."

"Knowing the situation your player is in. Say the player is feeling sad or down from something that has happened. instead of yelling and screaming at the player saying what to do, maybe encourage the player a little more so you can bring his confidence up. Though, if a player is feeling happy about himself and is enjoying himself try maintain that happiness and enjoyment so the player can play at his best ability."

"I think for coaches to be able to be coach me better, I think they should know what my weaknesses are."

"One thing I wish my coaches knew about me that would help them coach me better is that I put in a lot of effort at training that sometimes goes unnoticed, Not so much you but other coach’s seem to ignore my efforts and focus on my negatives as a player."

"One thing I wish my coaches knew about me that would help them coach me better is knowing my weaknesses mentally and physically in the game."

"One thing that I wish my coach new about me which would help in coaching me was that I work harder in high intensity sessions and against people at a higher level than me."

"I limit myself sometimes out of fear of making mistakes. When trying a new skill or trying to bring a new skill to my game I can get in my own head about making mistakes and not being as good or as talented or skilled as other players and then I won't try anything new out of that fear of making mistakes."

"One thing I wish my coaches knew about me that would help them coach me better is I don't have a lot of skill with the ball but i will always try my best with the drills and the games but i wish I could learn a lot more skills with my feet and the ball so I could be a strong AND a skillful player."

"One thing I wish my coaches knew about me that would help them coach me better is that I would like to go forward and try to at least shoot a goal or drive forward more."

"I want to learn more technical skills and more 1v1 because that’s what I feel I need improvement on. Also positioning my body when playing striker as I get a little confused sometimes."

"One thing I wish my coaches knew about me that would help them coach me better is that I want to pushed out of my comfort zone and be challenged a lot so I can get better and I learn quicker when I try the move physically. I find it harder to learn by watching."

"One thing I wish my coaches knew about me that would help them coach me better is i can play in multiple positions on the field and I can use both of my feet so it doesn't matter which side of the field I'm on."

"I like a challenge, I like to try new skills and to be pushed. I also push myself too much sometimes. eg. when I am playing a game and I hurt my ankle, I know I should probably be taken off the field but I don't talk up or say anything I keep pushing myself to play. It can be a good thing as I don't give up easily but it can be a bad thing also because I can injure myself more."
