Deputy Principal's Update

We will always have STEM with us. Some things will drop out of the public eye and go away, but there will always be science, engineering, and technology. And there will always, always be mathematics.— Katherine Johnson

Dear Parents

It has been wonderful to see so many happy, smiling faces back at school and enjoying just simply catching up with friends and teachers.  I enjoy the waves and greetings I get on crossing duty from all of you too!

It is a great time to remind you of our carpark rules as we transition back to being onsite:

-Please use our crossings, including our school crossing with Lynne our fantastic crossing supervisor.  We ask you to only use these and not walk through the middle of our carpark.

-Please reverse park where possible and keep clear of cars who are trying to park.

-Most importantly, please drive slowly and carefully when entering and exiting.  Children can be very unpredictable-please use caution at all times when driving near our school.

-Please use the supervised crossing at all times to cross Hinton Street. If you are parking further up Hinton you need to walk down to the supervised crossing to cross.

This week I have over 45 students who are participating in the annual Australian Mathematics Competition, an online competition that goes beyond Australia into New Zealand and many of our Asian neighbours.  The students in Years 3-6 will join the online problem solving challenge and attempt to solve some pretty tricky problems.  I have given you one of the practise questions below to have a go at if you like.  As you can see it is not just about knowing a simple answer to an equation, it involves many different strategies to get to the correct answer (the answer will be in the next newsletter!)

Good luck to all of our competitors!
