PLC Learning Sprints
You will have noticed in the 2021 Revised Site Improvement Plan that 'educators will engage in learning sprints to inform ongoing teaching practice'.
What are PLC Learning Sprints?
Learning Sprints are quite simply a process where educators collaboratively engage in learning and then take that learning into the classroom to trial a small 'tweak to a part of their practice'. After this trial period, staff reflect on it's effectiveness through examination of data. This will serve as a powerful means of building our efficacy as educators.
This cycle of learning, trial and reflection is intended to be implemented over a short period of time (approximately 5 weeks Sprints).
What are Learning Sprints:
As a PLC we will be engaging in ongoing professional learning focused on building our understanding of the teaching of oral language, phonics and phonological awareness as we develop our expertise in the teaching of Reading.
Learning Sprints will form an important part of our professional learning processes as we work towards collaboratively increasing our understanding of the 'Big Six of Reading' and documenting whole-school literacy agreements related to the teaching of reading.

As we engage in the Learning Sprint process our professional learning will be based on evidence outlined in a series of key documents and materials provided below.
Obviously, these resources will continue to be expanded over time.

The 'Big Six of Reading'
As we commence on our Site Improvement journey focused on improving the teaching of reading, it is important that we established a shared understanding of just how students successfully learn to read. The 'Big Six of Reading' is an important series of DfE documents which clearly outlining the key recommendations from the research.
Staff are asked to download the 'Big Six of Reading' document attached below in readiness for this week's PLC.
Agreed Staff Norms and Collective Purpose
During staff meeting in week 4 we discussed 'Our Collective Purpose'. Attached below is the summary of our discussion regarding the 3 key questions which guided our conversation.
- What is the purpose of education at Murputja Anangu School?
- Why is our work so important to the lives of our students?
- What are the 2-3 key outcomes that we are seeking for our students?
It was a powerful opportunity to collaboratively unpack why our work as educators is so important to the lives of our students here at Murputja Anangu School.
This conversation will be extended during this week's staff meeting as we co-construct a powerful purpose statement which will drive our work moving forward. The key question we are seeking to answer is 'why is our work important?' We will use a '5 Why' process in an effort to identify our shared purpose.

EALD Teachers PLC
Staff are also invited to join the EALD Teachers PLC Team which is a growing PLC with enthusiastic EALD educators.
More than 500 teachers across the Anangu Lands have joined the Team since it opened in March 2020.
