Learning Intentions and Success Criteria

At St Michael’s we use Learning Intentions and Success Criteria in our learning.

This enables students to have a purpose for their learning, as well as a guide which directs them to experience success.

An example of this in a reading session:

Learning Intention: We are learning how to make predictions about a text

Success Criteria:

We can do this by:

  1. Looking at the front cover of the book
  2. Reading the title
  3. Reading the blurb

This is because: (TIB)

Making predictions allows us to improve our reading comprehension, which in turn helps us work towards becoming more confident readers.

Learning Intentions and Success Criteria are a large part of Teaching and Learning at St Michael’s. They are even used by the staff in our professional learning meetings to guide our learning!

Perhaps ask your child what one of their learning intentions was at the end of the day!
