Principal's Views

From Mandy O'Mara

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of Epping Views Primary School,

As we come to the end of our third full week at school I’d like to congratulate the staff and students on the smooth transition they have made into 2023. All students have settled into the routines of school and our 85 Prep students have excelled with our expectations.

In our last newsletter we introduced all of our new staff and began sharing a bit about each one. We will continue this throughout the year.

We have 4 Assistant Principals at EVPS.

Steve Allen: Operations/Student Voice and Agency

Sophie Nightingale: Curriculum and Development

Rachel Griffiths: Curriculum and Development

Angela Conversano: Wellbeing and Engagement

As a Principal Class Team we are all happy to engage with our community and to work together to achieve the best outcomes for all.

Your child’s teacher is the first port of call for all questions, concerns or enquiries about your child. They know your child best. The office staff will happily assist you to make contact with your child’s teacher.

The new canteen operators commenced operation this term and what a positive impact they have had. Our students are loving the counter sales and the extended menu. Privatising the canteen has certainly helped us to overcome the staff shortages we were experiencing and has ensured that we can operate a canteen. At times last year, staff shortages, illness and vaccination mandates meant that we were struggling to operate a canteen. Staff shortages resulted in undue stress on our Office and OSHC staff who had to step in to cook and pack orders. We are looking forward to a long and productive relationship with Nadine, Lisa and their team. Please stay tuned for the launch of birthday treat buckets.

Transition tips

Back to school is an exciting time for students and families. It can be a big step – particularly for those starting prep or moving to secondary school.

For advice in multiple languages on how parents can help their child have a positive start to school, refer to Tips for starting school.

Rapid Antigen Testing

It is still recommended that rapid antigen tests (RATs) are used by students and staff:

  • If you have symptoms of COVID-19 infection, no matter how mild.
  • If you are a household or close contact of someone who has COVID-19.
  • If you are a social contact of someone who has COVID-19.

The Department of Health recommends that all Victorians should report their positive RAT result to the Department of Health online, or by calling 1800 675 398.

Kind regards,

Mandy O’Mara
