Student Leadership

Kristen Raine

The 2023 Student leadership team met for the first time this week. They started the meeting with introductions and some team-building discussions. Then a rich discussion was had about the common purpose and aims for the student leaders in 2023.

Some of the key ideas that came out of these discussions include:

  • Student voice and agency in the classroom
  • Making school better
  • Making school more sustainable
  • To have a more united community
  • To have a safer school that we can all take pride in
  • Set an example and improve respect
  • Increase student voice and engagement
  • Increase engagement with the Maffra community

The student leadership team will continue to refine their common purpose to encompass a number of these key ideas.

All student leaders will be acknowledged in our Student Leadership induction assembly to be held on Monday 20th February, where families are welcome to attend. The student leadership team will also attend a Student Leadership Day on Friday 10th February. On this day, the team will continue to connect with each other, strengthen their bonds and plan for actions, activities and events to be occur throughout the year.

A number of action teams will be held in Week 4, as per the schedule below. All students are welcome to come along to these action team meetings, and we encourage lots of students to get involved and have their say.

We are also in the process of selecting Form Group Leaders in Years 7, 8 and 9 to ensure that all classes have student representatives to share information and collect feedback.

  • Year 7 & 8 Student Action Team meeting – Wednesday lunchtime in Talmaru
  • Year 9 Student Action Team meeting – Thursday lunchtime in Talmaru
  • Senior Years Action Team meeting – Tuesday lunchtime in Talmaru
  • Environment group meeting – Tuesday lunchtime in Room S2
