Premier's Reading Challenge - now on!

 

The 2023 Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and we are so excited to be participating once again this year. 

 

The challenge first began in 2005 and since then more than 3.5 million have read over 54 million books!  It is a wonderful celebration highlighting the importance of reading for literacy development.

 

The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 8 September 2023.

 

Students from Foundation to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers.

 

Students from Year 3 to Year 6 are challenged to read 15 books.

 

All students who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.

 

This week class teachers will be issuing each Karoo student their own username and passcode. Please keep them in a safe place.  If you lose or forget your Challenge passcode, please let your class teacher know so that the Challenge Co-ordinator can generate a new one for you.

  1. Go to the Challenge application.
  2. Select the School/Student button.
  3. Select the VPRC login option.
  4. Enter your username and password.
  5. Select Login.

The PRC application offers a range of exciting features including:

  • access to a library catalogue (including book images and blurbs)
  • a modern user-friendly interface
  • rewarding students with badges as challenge milestones are achieved
  • the option for students to mark books as a favourite, give them a star rating or complete a book review

 

This is a wonderful time for students to explore new genres and share reading experiences with their family and friends.  Look out for a special window display at the Library which will be updated weekly to celebrate our top 5 student readers, leading year level and leading grade plus the total number of books read.
