Aussie Hoops Program

This week I am very excited to announce that our Year 3 and 4 students will be participating in a four week program run by Basketball Australia known as 'Aussie Hoops.' The program will take place at school on the Hard Courts and is free of charge. The program involves accredited coaches from Knox Basketball delivering the curriculum across three levels and teaching students the fundamentals of basketball. Classroom teachers will supervise the students during this time, however, the accredited coaches will run the program. The first session will begin this week on Thursday 9th March and the sessions will run over four consecutive weeks, taking place during the scheduled Year 3 and 4 sport time. The session dates are:

  • Session 1 - Thursday 9th March
  • Session 2 - Thursday 16th March
  • Session 3 - Thursday 23rd March
  • Session 4 - Thursday 30th March

The session times are:

  • Year 4 (12:20 – 1:10pm)
  • Year 3 (1:10 – 2pm)

This is a great opportunity for students to learn more about the game of basketball, maintain a physically active lifestyle and enjoy spending quality time with their peers. If you have any questions please let me know.

Karoo Whole School Cross Country

The Karoo Whole School Cross Country will take place tomorrow on Thursday 9th March.  A reminder that students will run with their year level (F - 2) or age group (3 - 6) and all genders will run at the same time. For Year 3 - 6, the first 10 boys across the finish line in each age group will progress through to District Cross Country. Similarly, the first 10 girls across the finish line in each age group will also progress through to District Cross Country

For all races, only the student who finishes in 1st position for each race will be awarded with a medal. Students who finish 2nd and 3rd will receive a place ribbon with their finishing position. Students who finish 4th to 10th will receive a ‘well done’ ribbon. All students who participate in the event will receive a raffle ticket with their finishing position, as this allows students outside of the top 10 to identify their overall placing in the race.

Please Note:   Due to the amount of students in the 8, 9 & 10 age group, there will be TWO HEATS for this category. The Year 4 & 5 students of this age group will be in HEAT 1. The Year 3 students of this age group will be in HEAT 2. The male and female students who finish in 1st position for each HEAT will be awarded with a medal. Students who finish 2nd and 3rd for each HEAT will receive a place ribbon with their finishing position. Students who finish 4th to 10th for each HEAT will receive a ‘well done’ ribbon. All students who participate in the Cross Country will receive a raffle ticket with their finishing position, as this allows students outside of the top 10 to identify their overall placing in the HEAT. IMPORTANT: Both heats for the 8, 9 & 10 age group will be timed. The 10 fastest males and the 10 fastest females across BOTH heats combined will progress through to District Cross Country. The students will find out by the end of the day whether they have been successful or not.

I look forward to the event and wish ALL the students the very best of luck!
