Frank Piccione
Hello SoGS Community! My name is Frank Piccione or Mr P as I am more affectionately known around the school and I hold various roles around the school!
Physical Education Leader
I am the Physical Education Leader at School of the Good Shepherd. I am responsible for the planning and implementation of the Physical Education Curriculum and program along with Charlene Dalton who is the Physical Education teacher for Prep and Grade 1. Together we make sure that our students are having fun, moving and enjoying being physically active.
The last two years have proven very challenging and it is with great excitement that we get back to the opportunities and challenges that PE presents. From learning the fundamentals and practicing Fine Motor Skills to developing specific game plays, skills
and working on fitness in the middle to upper grades, all our students are well catered for.
The Physical Education Program also relies on many District and Inter School Events such as the Broadmeadows Athletics District Carnival, District Cross Country and Interschool Sport. All of these activities give our middle to senior students an opportunity to excel in areas other than just the classroom.
We look forward to a fantastic year of encouragement, fair play and fun in the Physical Education realm at SoGS!
ICT Leader
I am also the ICT Leader or Information Computers and Technology Leader. This is a very important role considering the last two years we have all lived through. Technology is at the forefront of our minds and we are very privileged to be a 1:1 device school. Each student at SoGS has access to a Chromebook. The Chromebook is a device that compliments the program that the teachers and staff put in place for our students. From taking photos, engaging in teacher based and led assessments of math, writing and spelling, recording themselves for SEESAW or simply typing up a document, the students relish the responsibility of having their own device to work from. The Grade 5 and 6 students have an added responsibility of being able to take the device home every night, a skill that will come in handy when our Year 6’s move to Secondary School.
My role also allows me to work with our technical support company Source Central who provide advice, tech support and guidance in regards to all things technical. Our school has also recently undergone a WIFI system upgrade which allows us to be more proficient in delivering our curriculum to our students.
Occupational Health and Safety Leader (OH&S Leader)
Another important role for me at SoGS is that of the OHS or Occupational Health and Safety Leader. As the OHS leader I am tasked with extremely important incentives such as creating and implementing health and safety policies, training our staff on safety standards, and conducting safety inspections of the school premises. I am also responsible for finding ways to continuously improve safety culture in the workplace for both staff and students. Working with outside providers such as Dynamiq, provides our school with a safe and sensible approach to all types of emergency situations that we could be asked to deal with on a day to day basis. Practicing these drills and skills is very important. Lastly I am also responsible for making sure that our staff and school are compliant when it comes to emergency protocols.
It is sometimes a challenging role but a very rewarding one in knowing that staff, students and the community are safe whenever they enter the gates at SoGS.
I look forward to sharing more with you as the year progresses!
