Student Wellbeing

Student Wellbeing encompasses the following areas:  Student Engagement, Student Connectedness, Classroom Climates, Inclusion and Prevention to Intervention

Dear parents/caregivers,

Throughout 2023, we will be working closely with The Resilience Project to support the wellbeing of our school community.  The Resilience Project delivers emotionally engaging programs and provides evidence-based, practical strategies to build resilience. Our Partnership Program consists of online presentations and weekly lessons for students, professional development for staff, and Parent & Carer Hub (inc. digital presentations) for our parent and carer community.

On Wednesday, 15th March at 6.30 pm-7.30 pm, there will be a parent meeting online. Hugh or Martin will be presenting the project and ideas to parents. This program is an important part of our school’s effort to look after the mental health of our community.

View the first presentation of the series here: Part 1: Meet Hugh and learn about The Resilience Project - https://theresilienceproject.com.au/parent-and-carer-hub-hugh/

In this presentation, Hugh shares a personal experience about his sister's battles with Mental Illness. Note: This video contains a story about an Eating Disorder that may be triggering. Please consider this before watching. For mental health resources and support information, visit The Resilience Project’s, Support Page

We will be in touch to share the remainder of the program, including research and wellbeing activities to integrate into day-to-day life.

Medications Administered at School (short term)

There are new requirements directed by Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) regarding the administration of medications at school.

If a medication (completing antibiotics etc…) is to be administered for a short period of time by a member of St Fidelis’ staff, a new 'Medication Authority Form’ needs to be completed and signed by a health practitioner (doctor, nurse, pharmacist) as well as the parent/carer. Please note that medication cannot be given without this written consent.  All medications must be clearly marked with your child’s name. A Student Medical Plan does not have to be completed for short term medical requirements.

Please find the link for the Medication Authority Form for your reference below:

Anaphylaxis

A small number of students in our school suffer from allergies. A small number are anaphylactic. Ingesting foods such as nuts, eggs milk (any dairy) wheat, or chickpeas can cause a life-threatening reaction. We ask that sandwich spreads such as Peanut Butter and Nutella are not sent in lunches, as these can be very sticky and remain on furniture and door handles. You are also asked to remind and explain to your children that food is not to be shared at school.

In particular, families with children in Foundation to Year 2 are asked to remind their children of the importance of not sharing food and washing their hands after they have been to the toilet with soap. Staff will be revisiting this safety practice and hygiene practice this week.

Medical Conditions

It is important that we are aware of the children who have particular medical conditions, If your child does have a medical condition please notify the school immediately if you have not done so already.  Medical Action Plans are required to ensure the correct care can be administered in the case of a reaction or emergency.  This includes Anaphylaxis and Asthma Action plans.
