CEO Report

CEO: Samantha Kolasa

As the CEO of GEKA, I often wonder how much of a difference I actually make in the lives of children and families. For 20 years, I dedicated my career to working with vulnerable, marginalised and disadvantaged communities, committed to making even the smallest of impacts. My role at GEKA is somewhat different, however my goal is the same - to make a positive impact in the community that I work (and live).

As Michelle Obama said ‘success isn’t about how much money you make, it’s about the difference you make in people’s lives.’ As I reflect on the many ways GEKA makes a difference within the Glen Eira community, I want to share with you some of my highlights:

Volunteers

At GEKA, we have approximately 100 volunteers each year that make up our Volunteer Parent Advisory Groups. Each week, they give up their time to organise events, raise money for their kindergarten, participate in working bees and provide support to our staff. This altruism is highly valued at GEKA.

Mentoring

We are fortunate at GEKA to have staff that want to take the time to mentor and coach others. Dedicated professionals with years of wisdom and insight willing to share their knowledge and journey. Sometimes this is with other colleagues; sometimes a student on placement. This leadership is a valuable commodity.

Relationships

There are so many examples I could provide, but my favourite would have to be the relationships that GEKA children establish each year with our older generations when they regularly visit the nearby nursing homes. The joy that it brings everyone involved cannot be measured.

We all make a difference every single day. As parents, as friends, as employees, as active members of the community. Thank you to our families and staff for what you bring to GEKA and I am proud to know that we continue to touch the lives of others in all that we do.

Happy Easter for those that celebrate this occasion, and may you all have a safe holiday period.
