GEKA McKinnon Educators

GEKA  Mc Kinnon is a wonderful diverse community with many families and staff coming from different cultural backgrounds. Over the last few years, in partnership with Ormond Uniting Church, it has been our pleasure to support the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.

The Centre helps people from many different Cultural and Religious backgrounds who have had to flee their homelands and are looking for a better life and future.

The families and staff have been invited to donate non perishable food, toiletries and cleaning products, that are collected on a monthly basis by someone from the Church, who will then deliver them to the resource centre for distribution to those in need.

The educators have encouraged the the children to ask their families to contribute something to the collection. They also have been involved in packing the goods to be delivered. This has been a valuable learning experience as the children have become aware of the wider community and developed empathy towards those less fortunate than themselves.
