GEKA Glover Street

Kadasig Aid & Development

Jess Beruldsen, A parent reflection

My name is Jess and I am a mum at GEKA Glover Street Kindergarten.

I am writing to let you know about the amazing support GEKA Glover Street Kindergarten give to a charity that is very close to my family's heart; Kadasig Aid & Development. Kadasig is a voluntary group based in Australia that works to assist in the improvement of the lives of children and families in the Philippines through sponsorship and livelihood programs. 100% of money raised is forwarded directly to support those in need.

GEKA Glover Street Kindergarten has connected with a kinder/day care centre in Cebu that was built by Kadasig through fundraising and donations. Our sister kinder is called Phase V day care and is run by a wonderful teacher in the Philippines. Each year together with the families of GEKA Glover Street Kindergarten we put together a box full of classroom supplies (pens, paper, paints, books, toothbrushes etc). This has meant these children have access to some of the things our children take for granted every day.

My family and I have been to the Philippines and seen first-hand how Kadasig are helping the local community through the support, fundraising and donations of many people, including the GEKA Glover Street Kindergarten community.

I am looking forward to filling our next box this year and helping our children learn more about empathy, kindness and making a difference to other people’s lives.

Friendship Kindergarten in the Philippines

Jane Hartney, Early Childhood Educator

Our relationship with Kadasig began in 2016.  At the end of every year we have sent a Balakbayan Box to help support our Friendship Kindergarten in the Philippines.  In 2018 we had some very important visitors from Kadasig, three people from the Cebu in the Philippines and three from Australia who work tirelessly for the charity.

This was a wonderful experience to hear firsthand what a difference our support makes for the local day care and children who attend from the local community.  After the visit we celebrated one of the teachers 40th birthdays with a sausage sizzle lunch raising $345 to buy new tables and chairs for Phase five.  We will be continuing our support again in 2020 collecting kindergarten supplies that will be sent to Cebu later in the year.

This is an amazing way for our children to experience the feeling of ‘doing for others’.
