Year 10 to 12

2021 Year 12 Celebration Day

Our Year 12 students enjoyed a fabulous and well-deserved Celebration Day on Friday 19 November to mark the end of their secondary school journey.

The Final Assembly opened with a speech by our Principal John Roberts, congratulating students on their efforts and resilience during this challenging year. He was followed by College alumni, former College Captain and current screenwriter and professional basketballer, Saraid Taylor, who spoke about her experience post-secondary school and imparted some valuable life lessons for our students.

There were a large number of awards presented to students for a range of achievements, from Leadership and Community Service to Academic Excellence and Sporting Achievements.

Students were presented with their Year 12 Certificates and we were able to see on the screen how much they’d grown since their childhood with their baby photos matched with their current school photos! The assembly culminated with a slide show, showing that despite the challenges of the year, there were many, many highlights and times of fun and laughter.  Lastly we were treated to a moving farewell by member of the student body, Salaar Khalil.

After the assembly, students were provided with a lunch that was enjoyed in the upper courtyard. Last was the highly anticipated colour run, where teachers jumped at the chance to throw coloured powder at the students as they ran through an an obstacle course. Much fun was had by all!

A huge thank you to all of the teachers and support staff who were involved, either behind the scenes or on the day, helping to make this an event to remember for our Year 12 students.

Most if all, we wish our departing Year 12s all the best for their future endeavours, enjoy your summer and whatever comes next!

Outdoor Education Camps

The Year 10 Outdoor Ed classes were back on excursions last week as they headed down the Great Ocean Road.

Weather threw its challenges at both groups during the week but both groups handled the conditions with such gusto.

Despite the weather conditions we headed in to the surf with Go Ride a Wave! Students learnt about beach safety, wave types as well as surfing technique.

All the students celebrated their excitement of being out of lockdown by giving surfing a really good crack which was great to see!

Whilst out on the trip we also enjoyed the wonderful waterfalls and rivers around the Great Ocean Road. Both classes walked to Sheok Falls where students were able to experience the mist and the power of recent rainfall cascading down the cliff edge.

After recent flooding 5 weeks ago, Cumberland River had undergone some major works to ensure the campsite was restored to its former glory. Our Outdoor Education classes were able to stay on the freshly restored campsites. Cumberland River sits in a deep gorge with spectacular scenery outside the doorstep of everyone’s tents!

The Outdoor Ed classes both relished the opportunity to socialise with each other over some successful Trangia stove cooking and consumption of some interesting meals.

The second group to head out experienced some high winds on their first day which resulted in a few tents being blown around, which enabled them to put in to action their creativity and resilience to ensure everyone had a cosy night’s sleep.

Overall a great two days with each group with a lot of smiles and worn out students.

Backpacks for Kids Fundraiser

https://giftofsmiles.wixsite.com/smilefundraiser

The pandemic has kept us all away from our nearest and dearest, even within the Manningham Council area. Morning gestures like shaking hands, hugs, greetings that used to bring smiles to our faces at schools and workplaces were missed by people of all ages.

We aim to bring that smile back by delivering a “Box of Smiles” to not only your nominated recipient within the Manningham Community, but also to the ones in need by donating all profits to Backpacks 4 Vic Kids.

You can opt to nominate your school mates, family, extended family, healthcare workers, retail workers and can appreciate their efforts, as long as the recipient resides within the Manningham Council. I have been supported by EDSC to run this fundraiser for the EDSC students and also to include the wider Manningham Community. You can order a box between now and 3 December.

The delivery of the boxes will happen between 7 December and 13 December. We can guarantee that opening the “Box of Smiles” will definitely bring a smile to the recipient.

Order now!

Best wishes

1 to 1 Digital Learning Program 2022

In 2022 we will continue with our whole school 1 to 1 Digital Learning Program for all students.

The purchase of these devices is crucial to the learning program as students will access eBooks rather than an extensive number of expensive textbooks.

Details of the 1 to 1 Digital Learning Program for all students and important information regarding suitable devices are detailed in the attached policy.

**Please note that the JB Hi Fi Solutions portal is no longer open for the sale of devices. This service is not available for 2022 purchases.

Student Compass ID/Library/PTV  Cards

Please remind all students that they must carry their Student Compass ID/Library/PTV  Cards with them at all times.

ALL students must sign in/out with their card at the General Office when they are arriving late or leaving early for any reason. A reminder that Year 12 students are required to sign in/out at The John Landy Centre Compass Kiosk.

The cards are also used for any student photocopying that is done at school. The EDSC Student Compass ID/Library/PTV  is also the student PTV (Public Transport Victoria) cards. They are required to carry this card as student identification while travelling on public transport.

If a student loses their card, parents/guardians are able to re-order a replacement card via the Compass parent portal.
