Year 7 to 9

Year 6 Pre Orientation Day Monday 22/11/2021

An extra (pre) orientation day event was recently held at the College to support the transition of students who are coming to us from schools where they are either the only student or they are one of only two or three students attending EDSC next year. The aim is for them to meet other students in a similar situation, so that they have some familiar faces to recognise come Orientation Day on Tuesday 7 December. The students were introduced to each other in the morning and then they engaged in a number of getting to know you games and activities. The students were then shown around the school and had the opportunity to ask questions and interact with each other throughout. At the end students then created a web of friendship which can be seen in the photos.

A massive thank you to Tina Marchant who organised the event and Breanne Murphy who assisted. Also, Mark Rickard and Rebecca Morris for their contributions and of course John Roberts and Cameron Campbell who came to say hello as well.

An even bigger thank you to the student helpers David H, Cheryl L, Saachi P, Taylon P, Hasnaa R and Alexander Y. Their stories of how they made the transition to EDSC were very comforting for these students. Thanks again.

Year 9 Graduation Assembly/Locker Cleanout

On Wednesday December 1, Period 5: Year 9 students will attend their period 5 class. Teachers will mark their rolls and escort students to the PAC where we will be running a Year 9 graduation/values assembly. Afterwards, during period 6 students will be required to clean out their lockers.

Wednesday December 1, Period 6: Year 9 students complete their assembly and then proceed to clean out their lockers, supervised by their period 6 teachers. Bins will be provided and teachers will be provided with rolls which they can use to mark off when student lockers are sufficiently cleaned out. Teachers and students will return to their P6 classrooms prior to the end of period 6 for a roll marking and dismissal at 3.15pm. Students are advised to take as much home with them as possible. Although lockers will still be usable during Advance Week, any lockers with materials still locked inside them as of Monday 13 December will have the locks removed and materials donated to the Wellbeing team.

Year 9 Exams

These will take place on Thursday 2 December during periods 3 and 4 for English and 5 and 6 for Maths. The timetable for the room allocation is attached.

Coordinators will go over the process for completing exams during the Year 9 Values/Graduation Assembly during periods 5 and 6 the previous day.

Year 9 students ARE NOT required at school prior to exams. Please do not send students to school prior to recess.

Any questions regarding content/completion of exams should be referred to your child’s classroom teacher for that subject.

Year 7 and 8 Combined Values Assembly

Year 7 and 8 students will attend a combined Values Assembly during period 4 on 9 December. This will be a chance to celebrate the end of year and values award winners from this term. Students will also receive information and final instructions for the upcoming activities week. Both Year 7 and 8 will then clean out their lockers during periods 5 and 6.

Year 7 and 8 Locker Clean Out

Backpacks for Kids Fundraiser

https://giftofsmiles.wixsite.com/smilefundraiser

The pandemic has kept us all away from our nearest and dearest, even within the Manningham Council area. Morning gestures like shaking hands, hugs, greetings that used to bring smiles to our faces at schools and workplaces were missed by people of all ages.

We aim to bring that smile back by delivering a “Box of Smiles” to not only your nominated recipient within the Manningham Community, but also to the ones in need by donating all profits to Backpacks 4 Vic Kids.

You can opt to nominate your school mates, family, extended family, healthcare workers, retail workers and can appreciate their efforts, as long as the recipient resides within the Manningham Council. I have been supported by EDSC to run this fundraiser for the EDSC students and also to include the wider Manningham Community. You can order a box between between now and 3 December.

The delivery of the boxes will happen between 7 December and 13 December. We can guarantee that opening the “Box of Smiles” will definitely bring a smile to the recipient.

Order now!

Best wishes

1 to 1 Digital Learning Program 2022

In 2022 we will continue with our whole school 1 to 1 Digital Learning Program for all students.

The purchase of these devices is crucial to the learning program as students will access eBooks rather than an extensive number of expensive textbooks.

Details of the 1 to 1 Digital Learning Program for all students and important information regarding suitable devices are detailed in the attached policy.

**Please note that the JB Hi Fi Solutions portal is no longer open for the sale of devices. This service is not available for 2022 purchases.

Student Compass ID/Library/PTV  Cards

Please remind all students that they must carry their Student Compass ID/Library/PTV  Cards with them at all times.

ALL students must sign in/out with their card at the General Office when they are arriving late or leaving early for any reason. A reminder that Year 12 students are required to sign in/out at The John Landy Centre Compass Kiosk.

The cards are also used for any student photocopying that is done at school. The EDSC Student Compass ID/Library/PTV  is also the student PTV (Public Transport Victoria) cards. They are required to carry this card as student identification while travelling on public transport.

If a student loses their card, parents/guardians are able to re-order a replacement card via the Compass parent portal.
