CALD WOMEN'S GROUP

This week Nestor and Sarah from CatholicCare organised a fantastic Christmas celebration for our CALD women. This was held at St Mary’s Football club, who, thanks to Amanda, were a great host. Community leaders at the Geelong Cats Football Club Titet and Cassie organised some AFLW players to support a football clinic which was a wonderful opportunity for our families. They were also provided with an instructional video on the game of AFL to support their understanding. In addition to these festivities, there was singing and dancing from some of the parents.

I was fortunate to be involved and was greatly appreciative of the opportunity to present hampers and Geelong Cats gear to the parents of our students. I was also very impressed with our student MC’s who led the program successfully without fault. We even spent some time on the pronunciation of my name and rehearsed it with me. I have never really considered that before, lucky it sounded great the first time.

I would like to extend a big thank you to everyone for setting up the day; CatholicCare, NGSC, Geelong Cats, the fORT and St Mary’s Football club. In particular, Nestor and Sarah from CatholicCare and Chrimoo from NGSC, for enabling parents to understand the messages being given on the day and for the ongoing connections with families.

END OF YEAR PROGRAM

SELF-DEFENCE

The Middle Years Girls' initiative managed to get a few of their actions achieved late in the year, despite repeated interruptions to their collaboration. One of the main goals this year was to introduce self-defence to Year 9 girls in Health programs. It empowers them to develop and utilise their assertive voice in and out of the school community. This year the program and it has been properly aligned into the Health curriculum, with thanks to Ms Marendaz and the rest of the Health and PE team. To ensure that all students had access to this opportunity we included self defence for four days in the last weeks of school for all girls and boys in Year 9. It was a wonderful success, and we will continue to include this program in future years.

BOOKLISTS

Thanks to all students who have now submitted their booklists. It will make for a smoother beginning to 2022 and students will begin the year with all resources, ready to learn. All booklists are due online at www.campion.com.au  by Friday, 17 December. Any further booklist orders need to be submitted directly to Campion. Their address is 36 Little Myers Street, Geelong.

Orders will be delivered to your home by Australia Post by 25 January, 2022. Students will be purchasing a Curriculum Digital (via the Booklist) bundle for English, Humanities, Maths and Science. It is important that students have the required materials for school to ensure that their learning is not affected in the classroom or at home.

REPORTS

Students will receive their reports early next week. They need to sit down with their parents and set themselves goals for the 2022 school year. Focus on areas that need improvement and strengths that can be developed further. Reports need to be utilised as a feedback tool and as a valuable source of information to ensure improvement occurs.

SUBJECTS 2022

This is a reminder that over the break family discussion might result in some questions around your child’s subjects and pathways. Things can change, we are aware of this and hence permit changes up until the end of the first week of school. All subject changes must be accompanied with some pathway justification and parent permission. Please be mindful, however, that there is limited flexibility with choice as many of the classes from 9 to 11 are quite full.

We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy holiday break.
