Teaching and Learning News
Welcome to Preps 2022
Last week we welcomed our 2022 Prep students for a transition to school morning. There were many excited faces and lots of experiences to share.
Transition to school allows potential school beginners to have an experience of being in the classroom with their 2022 classmates. It provides an understanding of school life, their classroom and future teachers. Students engaged in a variety of fun learning activities giving them a beginning sense of learning at school. They had the opportunity to experience our school environment and will return tomorrow for a second session.
End of year Awards
At the end of each year, special awards are presented to some Year 6 students.
One is the St Martin's Spirit Award. This is given to a Year 6 student who has demonstrated, over their time at SMDP, the values of St Martin de Porres - love and service to others and care for God's creation. The recipient is someone who has been inclusive and welcoming, and improves the lives of others by doing good inside and beyond our school.
Another is the Principal's Award. This is awarded to a Year 6 student who leaves St Martin's having embraced every opportunity offered and participated positively and fully in the life of the school.
An Academic Award is presented to a Year 6 student whose performance as a learner has been exemplary.
An Encouragement Award is presented to a student who has demonstrated significant personal growth and improvement in learning.
The two final awards are a Sports and an Arts award. These go to a Year 5 or 6 student who has demonstrated excellent skill, sportspersonship and achievement when competing both in House Events and Interschool events. The Arts award recognises talent and aspiration to develop skills and techniques in either Visual or Performing Arts (music, dance, drama). These awards are presented at the Year 6 graduation celebration or at the final school liturgy.
We congratulate Hlina who finished her time at St Martin's last week and was presented with the Encouragement award at our weekly assembly.
We look forward to presenting the remaining awards and celebrating the achievements of SMDP learners.
Student Reports
End of year reports will be emailed to families by 5pm on Friday December 10th 2021.
Reports provide formal feedback on your child’s learning for Semester 2.
As our school once again moved to remote learning as a result of COVID-19, our usual ways of working and engaging with students have looked different in Semester 2 2021.
All students should be proud of their efforts, even in the challenging moments.
The content on which we report is reduced, as the usual assessments undertaken in the everyday classroom have not been possible throughout the whole of the semester.
Teachers have used a broad evidence-base to make their own balanced assessments of your child’s progress at this point in time. Such evidence includes teacher observations, Term 4 assessments, Progressive Achievement Tests (PAT) rubrics, notes and moderated work samples.
Please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s classroom teacher at any time for any clarification about your child's progress.
Teachers have set aside Monday December 13th from 3:30pm - 5pm to facilitate any parent requests for a learning conversation after reading your child's report.
If you require an appointment, please contact your child's teacher directly via email or Seesaw.
Teachers may also be in contact with you to organise a learning conversation before the year ends.
