DAV British Parliamentary Debating

DAV Junior British Parliamentary Debating Final

After the past few weeks of competition, in which we had eight teams of Year 7 and 8 debaters participated in a series of state-wide tournaments, we ended up with three teams qualifying for the semi-finals:

Elle D, Alexis F, Jehan M (Year 7)

Olivia W, Jade H, Prisha R (Year 8)

Sophie L, Keira L (Year 8)

At the end of the semi-finals, two Huntingtower teams (Olivia W, Jade H and Prisha R; and Sophie L and Keira L) qualified for the grand final debate. Elle, Alexis and Jehan did an excellent job too, finishing third against some tough Year 8 teams in their final debate.

The Huntingtower teams finished first and second in the Grand Final and the competition as a whole, with Sophie and Keira winning the competition to become the Victorian state champions, and Olivia, Jade and Prisha finishing just one point behind them in second place.

The students did extremely well in some very high quality debates against stiff competition. Despite the fact they didn’t know how long things would continue for as only the top two teams from each debate qualified for the next stage, and no time to prepare beforehand with all debates being secret topics, they have all done brilliantly!
