Student & School  Achievements and Communications

Farewell Year 12

Message from the Principal

I want to thank you for your support in what has been a surprising, challenging and rewarding 2021. Despite the 14 weeks of lockdown, we have still managed to achieve a good deal throughout the year and whilst it would be impossible to list it all, I am filled with admiration for the resilience of students, staff and our community as we bounced back into the end of term 4.

I am looking forward to acknowledging student success in our end of year ceremonies. We have a lot of awards to present to our students who have achieved academically, in the sporting arena and contributed actively to our community. We are also looking forward to welcoming our incoming year 7 students into the school for a modified Orientation Day. I have been watching our year 9 student mentors train ready for this day and the activities that will follow throughout term 1 to welcome in our new students. It is yet another example of the thriving community spirit amongst our students.

The HSC examinations have all gone well. I am pleased that we reached the end of the examination period with all our students having completed their exams as expected. It has been a monumental achievement for year 12 to continue to focus on completing these tasks as they also recover from the extended preparation period being conducted online. We anticipate strong results in January and look forward to welcoming students for the BBQ on Friday 28 January.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish HT HSIE Jana Mawassi all the best on her leave in 2022, Vicky Michos will relieve as HT HSIE for the year. Ilhea Yen, our HT Mathematics, has been seconded into the Literacy and Numeracy team working in the Department of Education- it is an exciting new role and a valuable experience. We look forward to all that she will have to share with us on her return and wish her the best for the role. Kathie Burgess will relieve as HT Mathematics in 2022. We also have a new HT PDHPE joining us in 2022 to replace Kate Dunn who was successful in gaining promotion to Deputy Principal at Penshurst GHS; Nick Ristevski joins us from Moorefield GHS. I would like to thank Jonathan Jankowski for his work in the relieving role throughout terms 3 and 4.

I would like to wish Alice Magoffin and Liz Neves an enjoyable year of leave and farewell Natalie Conroy. Natalie Conroy has worked for many years as part of our PDHPE and Student Services faculties, I wish her all the best as she takes up a new permanent job at Strathfield South High School. Our thanks also to Lynda Espinola, Yifan Wang and Max Brenner for their work with us in 2021- we wish them well with their travels and future endeavours in 2022.

We also welcome new teaching staff. Rita Evangelista has been appointed as our new permanent Careers Adviser. We also have new staff joining us in a temporary capacity in 2022 including learning and support teacher, Suzanne Dickinson; HSIE teacher, Ashleigh Wray; mathematics teacher, Hailey Summer; and PDHPE teachers Ngaire Hadfield and James Nagy.

I wish everyone a safe and happy summer holiday break.
