Art

Term 2, Week 8

Welcome to Term 2 Art News

It was wonderful to start the term with an excited and enthusiastic group of young Artists at BPS. This positive creativity has continued throughout the term. Hooray for BPS Artists!

This term in Grades 3 to 6 we have been doing a lot of messy Art, Papier Mache and Painting. This messy business will continue throughout the terms ahead….so …. If you have not already supplied your child with a named Art smock, please send one along with your child or children in the next few weeks. (Foundation to Grade 6)

Most watercolour paints don't stain but Acrylics and some inks can and do stain. So best to avoid uniform dramas and wear a smock.

 THE LUME MELBOURNE

The worlds largest digital Art Gallery

‘Monet and Friends’

I know that last year many families went to see the Van Gogh Lume Exhibition at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. This year we were fortunate to have the Exhibition of ‘Monet and Friends’.

Wow…. What an amazing experience to see the works of Monet, Manet, Cezanne, Pissarro, Berthe Morisot, Mary Cassatt, Sisley, Renoir, Seurat and others in an enormous scale, with beautiful music, special visual effects and the hint of perfumes from Provence.

It was a visual feast with a fabulous sound track and awe-inspiring viewing of the Impressionist Artists Artwork on a massive scale. ’Monet and Friends’ was certainly one of the most wonderful exhibitions I have been to in recent years and takes the idea of an 'exhibition' to a whole new level. Just like last year…. After viewing the show three times my family finally managed to drag me out  .... the exhibition was that fantastic!

While Monet and Friends has just closed on the weekend, if you get an opportunity to go to the next exhibition I would very much recommend a visit.

The next exhibition celebrates our First Australian Artists.

“‘CONNECTION’ features 550 digital and original Artworks from more than 110 visual and musical artists, representing the largest collection of First Peoples’ Art ever assembled.”

Here is a clip to give you an insight to the forthcoming exhibition opening on 23rd of June.

Papier Mache.

This term Grade 5 and 6 students have been busy working with construction and modelling with papier Mache.

Students have been busy designing, painting - acrylics and decorating their Paper mache, then varnishing and embellishing with feathers, jewels, beads and ornamentation.

What a fabulous group of young Artists and Designers we have in Year Six in 2023. Here are some of their wonderful finished artworks.

This Term the Units we have been studying in Art, include the following:

Painting and Drawing

A BIG focus on Colour – Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, Complimentary colours, Tints and shades using watercolours, acrylic paints, pastels and pencils on a range of different activities including Mother’s Day Artwork: Portraits, Vases of Flowers and vibrant symbols colour work.

The ART Elements

All levels of the school have been having a focus on the six Art Elements: Colour, Line, Shape, Texture, Form and Space. These elements occur in Art. They are the ‘Building Blocks’ of our Artwork and help us to understand how to create in a way that enables us to share and visualise our ideas.

Senior students have extended their knowledge and drawing practice in working with focal points, vanishing points and one-point perspective. They have learnt about the three-dimensional nature of space and forms within space with various viewing points.

Year Six students have been introduced to the idea of Concept Illustration’ – the idea of conveying a message, telling a story, creating an illustration that has a deeper meaning or layers of meaning.

The theme of this two-dimensional illustration was ‘Time’, Time that got away, If only we had time, In another time…. Here are a few examples

AUTUMN has now disappeared and we are in the chilly world of Winter.

Here are a few Autumn masterpieces the children have produced using textured rubbing plates, crayons, pencils and food dye washes.

*Masterpieces done at home and brought in to share

Students often bring in special artworks that they have completed at home to share with their friends. Here are a few projects that we have enjoyed sharing in the Art discussion times.

Well done Artists. Keep on drawing and painting.

Here is a snap shot of some more of the work that is being produced in the Old Art Room at B.P.S.

Best wishes,
