Sports Shorts

Term 2, Week 8

Hello and welcome to our end of term Sports Shorts. There's been a lot happening in Physical Education and Sport at BPS throughout term 2 including F-2 swimming, grade 3- 6 winter sport and trainings, before school running club and representative cross country.

Our program for Physical Education this term for our grades has included:

F-2: Throwing and catching, locomotor movements and basketball bouncing, passing and shooting activities.

Grade 3 - 6; Track and Field Athletics and chasing and fleeing games.

BPS shines at District Cross Country

In tough, wet conditions, our 60 athletes ran with such courage and determination in our 2023 District Cross Country. The event was held on Wednesday 10th May at Ruffey Lake in Doncaster. If you know Ruffey Lake, it’s not a walk in the park as far as hills go! It’s an undulating course with a range of challenges underfoot. I was so proud of the way our athletes navigated the course, some for the very first time and some for their fourth time.

At the conclusion of the event our school was presented with the Aggregate Shield, which means we were the overall wining school for the day. We were also awarded the most improved school. Both shields were a terrific reward for such a hardworking group of runners and the community that supports them! Well done BPS!

Congratulations to our runners who placed in the top 10 and those that achieved new personal bests for the day. We had 12 athletes selected to run at our Division Cross Country event on Monday 29th May. Three of these runners are in grade 3 which is a tremendous effort for their first year! Well done Charlie, Max and Max!

District Cross Country Medalists

How incredible that we had a BPS trifecta in our 10 and under boys 2km race with Ben (gold), Max (silver) and Max (bronze) placing 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the race! Well done Super Champs!

Congratulations to our bronze medalist in the 12/13 girls 3km race, Ayla, for your outstanding run!

Division Cross Country athletes super brave!

With 12 athletes running at the Whitehorse Division Cross Country from BPS, our school was represented in every race. This is a huge achievement for our school and our runners.

Running at Ruffey Lake again, your runners again had wet and muddy conditions to contend with.

Congratulations to all our runners for their outstanding efforts and running a grueling course.

Outstanding efforts, Max, Max and Harrison!

F-2 swimming

Our grade F-2 students enjoyed a five day swimming program in the early part of this term. Thank you to all the F-2 teachers and families that supported the program and our students water development. Thanks to Wendy Bennett for doing our timetables for the two weeks and to Mrs Fountain and Miss Wood for your efforts with administration.

Winter Sport Grade 5/6

For the last 5 weeks, our grade 5 and 6 students have been training in their chosen winter sports every Thursday and throughout the week at lunchtime. On Friday 16th June, our selected grade 5 and 6 students will be representing BPS in our District Winter Sport Round Robin. Our teams will be playing AFL, Soccer, T-ball and Netball. Thank you to our wonderful staff and parent volunteers for your help.
