University Open days
Now is the time to start planning your visits to University open days. Following is a list of dates that have been released so far. Some of these universities require pre-registration, so be sure to look at the website for all the details.
VTAC
The Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) is the organisation who manage university and (some) TAFE offers. Every student in year 12 needs to open an account with VTAC, so they can submit their University preferences later in the year. Before students can open account, they will need to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Applying for a USI is a quick and simple process. Go to: https://www.usi.gov.au/
Once you have a USI, you can apply for a VTAC account: https://delta.vtac.edu.au/registration/apply
Important VTAC dates are shown below.
Careers and Course Expos
These expos are a fabulous opportunity to get some inspiration for life after school. There are businesses, Universities, TAFES, Defence Force, Emergency Services, Gap Year Programs and so much more all in one enormous expo. We cannot recommend a visit to one of these highly enough. Year 10 Students
Work Experience
All year 10 students should have by now, organised a work experience placement and returned their forms to Mrs. Damon. If you or your child is having difficulties with this process please speak with a member of the careers team (Mrs Dwyer, Ms Raschle, Ms Fuller) or Mrs Damon.
Students were briefed during this week on how to best prepare for their week, so they find it a rewarding and worthwhile experience.
Career planning and subject selection
All students in year 10 will soon be participating in a careers planning session which is designed to equip them with information and skills prior to their subject selections for VCE. Students will be led through activities involving personality testing, identifying strengths and interests, and learning about “pre-requisite” subjects. This session will be very helpful for the students in making informed subject choices for VCE. It is scheduled for Thursday, June 15.
Year 9 Students
South Gippsland Careers Expo
Year 9 students will be attending the South Gippsland Careers Expo in Korumburra on Tuesday, June 6. They will have the opportunity to participate in two seminars, and then browse the education and employers exhibition arena. Students are encouraged to ask questions and make the most of this excursion to see what education and job opportunities exist in our local area.
