School Council

School Council Newsletter Report - 18 May 2023

On Thursday 18 May we were meeting once more from the comfort of our homes.  Pyjamas on, dinners being eaten and kids poking their heads in throughout the meeting.

Did you know that it is now a requirement of the school council to endorse all excursions and camps? We were very excited to get the inside scoop on all the up and coming adventures our kids have in store for them over the coming months.  Bugs, robots, farms, and sustainability are all on the agenda.

On the topic of sustainability, the Policies Committee reviewed the Green Event Management Policy.  This will involve a commitment by our school to reduce the environmental impact of our events. The program is offered by Sustainability Victoria, supporting Victorian schools to embed sustainability across their facilities, community and curriculum, saving resources and money for the school.

As is required by the Department of Education and Training, School Council were presented with the Operating Statements and Balance Sheets for previous months. These were endorsed along with additions to approved signatories to school banking and purchase orders.  It is fascinating to see how the school budget is quickly absorbed by electricity, gas and water bills, maintenance costs, relief                                                                                               teachers, technology upgrades and lots of                                                                                             paper.

One notable change was the new electronic message board, which was jointly funded by the school and funds raised by the Parents & Friends Group in 2022.  If you haven’t already seen it, it is a great addition to our school. I am anticipating it will share many worthwhile messages with our school community, such as upcoming curriculum days, first and last days of term, free dress or sports days and maybe even important dates like the School Council President’s birthday?

Our next meeting is Thursday 15 June 2023, via Webex.  All are welcome to observe.
