Wellbeing 

The Wellbeing Team have had the pleasure of delivering various presentation to both Senior and Junior cohorts at the start of term 1. 

 

Year 12 Study Conference (Camp) 

The Wellbeing Team attended the Year 12 Study Conference (Camp) and delivered a Stress Management and Mindfulness workshop. The workshop encouraged students to reflect on their daily challenges and the various competing demands confronted in adolescence and VCE. The workshop aimed to assist students in developing a greater awareness of stress, causes and symptoms, and how to reduce stress by practicing mindfulness. Some of the themes covered in the workshop included: Connecting with People; Nutrition; Encouraging Healthy & Active Lifestyles, Sleep; and Positive Thinking. The workshop concluded by outlining the various supports services available to students at the college and the community. 

 

Year 7 Orientation Program 

The Wellbeing Team also had the pleasure of delivering several presentations to the Year 7 cohort in the first couple weeks as part of their year 7 orientation and transition program. The focus was keeping well for year 7 and sessions were aimed to assist Year 7 students to develop a greater understanding of the wellbeing services at Lalor Secondary College. We discussed items such as wellbeing philosophy; wellbeing processes and services; wellbeing focused programs and initiatives; student wellbeing referral and appointment process, confidentiality and duty of care; reasons for referral; whilst also exploring stress and anxiety; helpful wellbeing tips; how to help a friend; support at school and in the wider community. 

 

AFTER SCHOOL HOMEWORK PROGRAM (ASH)

The Wellbeing Team at Lalor Secondary College in collaboration with ‘The Smith Family’ and ‘Whittlesea Community Connections’ provide support for students with their homework by delivering the After School Homework Program (ASH). ASH commenced in week 3 and will occur [most] Tuesdays between 3pm – 4pm in the College Library over the course of the year. Students have the option of leaving early and are not required to stay the length of the program, however please note, if any student leaves the program early they are not permitted to remain in the school grounds and must either make their way home immediately or be collected by a parent or guardian. Teachers and trained volunteer tutors attend each session to assist students with work; students are encouraged to bring their digital devices for educational purposes. Students also have access to library resources including computer and internet and wellbeing staff. The whole school educational initiative is open to all students. Parent / guardian / carer consent is required. Consent forms are available from the General Office or the Welfare Office. Students who arrive after 3:30pm will NOT be permitted to participate.
