Sport

Welcome back to a very exciting and busy term 1 of sport at Tally! We hope everyone had a great break and got to spend some quality time with loved ones.
This year we are very excited to welcome some new members to our HPE team. Mr Keir Baker, who most of you may know from his classroom teaching at Tallebudgera SS. He comes with an extensive HPE background and will be working with the Year 1-2 students for Physical Education and Year 3 students for Health. Ms Alison Foster will be teaching fundamental movement with our Prep and Year 1 students, along with dance. Ms Foster is also teaching a Year 2 class one day a week and has a lot of experience working with the early years students. Mrs Kristina Augsten has been teaching at Tallebudgera SS for a few years now and will be teaching our Prep students fundamental movement skills along with Health lessons. She has a lot of experience working with the students and has a strong sporting background.
This year I will teaching the Prep, Year 1 and Year 3-6 students in Physical Education as well as teaching Health to the Year 4 students.
We are all very passionate about HPE and sport at Tallebudgera and we are all extremely excited for the year ahead. If you have any questions or enquiries about anything HPE related, please feel free to contact us via phone or email.
What are we learning this Term?
The junior school, Prep-Year 2 students are working on their fundamental movement skills with a focus on throwing and catching.
The senior school, Year 3-6 students will be refining their fitness, throwing and catching along with looking at strategic use of space in game situations.
The junior and senior school will be having their School Cross Country in week 10 and will be training in their lessons.
Friday Afternoon Sport
The year 5/6 students will begin their Friday afternoon sport sessions in week 5. This happens every week, weather permitting. The students play sporting rounds either against the other houses in the school or as training for their upcoming Interschool Sports Day in Term 2 and Term 3. Interschool Sports Day's are between several other schools and the students play in their selected sport. The sports on offer this year are Rugby League, Oztag, AFL, Soccer, Netball, Tennis and Ultimate Frisbee. Our Friday afternoon sport is free for the students and is facilitated by Tallebudgera State School Staff. This term the students will be competing in the inter-house competition.
Free Afternoon Sport
Our free afternoon sport will kick off in Term 2 and is on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 3-4pm. These sessions are held on the school oval and provide an opportunity for students to trial new sports before signing up to club sport. These sessions are completely free and are funded by the Australian Sporting Commissions Sporting Schools program. A qualified coach will run each of these sessions and a Tallebudgera State School staff member will be there to assist with supervision. Parents are invited to come and watch the afternoon sessions.
Oceanic Swimming
Good luck to our swimming students who will be competing at the Oceanic District Swimming Carnival today. These students were selected from our school swimming carnival at the end of last year. We wish our students the best.
Oceanic District Trials
If your child is turning 11 or 12 this year and is looking to try out for a district sport, they must come and check the window in the hall outside our PE office for all the upcoming district sports. If they want to trial they need to write down their name. Please note that as this is a district trial, it is advised for the safety of your child that they have participated in that sport at club level before. We can usually only send 3 students from the school, so if we have more students nominate we will run an in-school trial to select our top students to attend the district trial. Students have been advised about this in their HPE lessons.
Sporting Achievements
Next weekend two of our students will be representing South Coast and heading to the Fraser Coast to compete in the Qld State Aquathon Titles. Good luck to Callum and Layla. The whole school community are behind you!
