Dance for 2022 has started off amazingly with the Year 7’s coming in and setting the bar high for yet another great year ahead! We have been implementing different styles within the first few weeks of dance, as well as working with props also.
This has opened up the students minds to a lot more creative concepts and ideas with dance, while showing them that it’s not just about the body, but also what can be done using props and other elements around you. Through the program we also use dance to cover various life related elements that can cross over to other areas throughout ones journey such as work, sports, friendships, teamwork, and goal setting to name a few. Through various choreographed routines and exercises in classes we break down the focus, mindset, details, commitment, attitude, and energy applied to it all, to further discuss the outcome of what we’re trying to achieve and how to apply ourselves to reach our goals.
Though not everyone wants to dance or be a dancer, there are some vital and important elements that cross reference to all areas of life which can be applied and maximised across the board. Teamwork is one of the main topics we discuss as this relates to many different areas in life from work, to sports, friendships and so on. The warm ups and stretching for example helps everyone in different ways especially all those who play sports. This helps gain more body control, body awareness, enhances muscle memory, better reflexes, more placement and detail to tasks at hand.
It also creates a clearer mindset as you have more functionality and control to what you’re doing, which in return enhances focus, confidence, drive and determination. It also helps create awareness with looking after the body, preventing injuries, and helping students to gain maximum results with how they use it. Preps and Year 1’s have also started off the year at full pace coming into the dance studio bursting with energy and a hunger ready to learn and embrace all that dance has to offer.
They have applied themselves wholeheartedly while paying attention to all the details from warm up and stretching, through to the dance routines where we’re covering all the foundations and functionality of the body. We’ve been focussing on identifying our right and left sides, as well as different directions, levels, rhythms and beats. Freestyling for students is always a fun part of the class also where everyone let’s go and dances their hearts out however they feel for a whole song. The vibe in the studio is always at high energy as everyone is buzzing with excitement as we go through the different stages of class. We have also recently completed auditions for both Junior and Senior Dance Extension Groups! This was not an easy process with so many talented students who registered and auditioned, but we finally managed to get our finalists for this years dance extension program!
Congratulations to all the students that made it through, but also to everyone who came to the audition and did an amazing job, well done and thank you!I’d like to extend a special thank you to Mr Lapina for his time and help through the audition process, much appreciated! Both dance extension groups will be starting rehearsals in the coming weeks at hand.
Victorian State School Spectacular 2022 auditions have also been held and we’d like to extend a huge congratulations to the final 16 that will be representing Saltwater College this year in September on the big stage! It will be an amazing journey that you will remember for years to come, and we are proud to have you representing us all on the big stage! Rehearsals will be commencing soon and we can’t wait to get started! All students have shown great improvement in the short few weeks we’ve had already, and I can foresee this year will hit a whole new level as we go on! It’s an awesome start in the dance studio at Saltwater and can’t wait to see what’s ahead! Let’s Go!!
