The year has started off with a bit of a flurry in the Music Classroom. The timetable has been carefully crafted to accommodate the Years Four, Five and Six classes, with the addition now of our Year Seven students.
All classes have commenced with establishing a safe and supportive environment, conducive to support expressing one's creativity, without the fear of embarrassment or inhibition.
During this Term, the Years Four, Five and Six students will be focused on performing the chords of a song that they regularly listen to on the radio. To achieve this, they will revisit musical notations, identify and recreate rhythmic patterns, decipher notes on a musical staff, and locate the notes on the keyboard.
As the term progresses, the student will explore the effects of layering the notes, thus creating chords that could be used to accompany their performances.
I must thank Lily from Year Seven who created the wonderful musical banner (shown above). Lily created this banner specifically for our Schoolbox page, demonstrating a convergence of Performing and Visual Arts.
On the Victorian State School Spectacular (VSSS) front, we were treated to over 50 students who auditioned to take part in this year's VSSS Mass Choir. I wish I could take all of the students because they all presented with so much courage and passion. All auditionees should be congratulated for their efforts. Unfortunately, we can only take 25 students, so many have missed out. Fortunately however, we are commencing Lunchtime Choirs for Timetable A and Timetable B, which will be run during the Friday lunch break of the respective timetables. Everyone is encouraged to join, and there is no need to audition.
