Robotics

Written by Gemma Fowler

Year Five and Year Six students have made a fantastic start to the year. Our Essential Agreements have outlined class behaviours and attitudes for 21st century learning.

We are currently investigating colour sensors and how they are applied in real life situations to recognise and sort objects.

Using the Lego EV3 robotics kits, students learnt how to connect sensors and create code. Taking inspiration from supermarket self-checkouts equipped with sensors, students made simulated checkouts that could determine which items were being purchased based on the colour of the item.

Next we will look at mechanisms for robotic claws that are able to pick up various items, and ways that these can be controlled by motors and code. This will certainly be an exciting year filled with fun and engaging projects!
