Year Six News

Written by the Year Six Team

It has been wonderful to see our year six students continue to settle into their classrooms and build friendships with their peers. We would like to give a warm welcome to our families who have just joined our Saltwater community. It has been lovely to see our current students embrace those who are new this year and have helped them settle in.

Arts

Year six students were excited to start their music lessons this week with Mr Michael Lapina. Students eagerly learnt about the different measures’ beats can have and how these are represented when written in sheet music.

Students were also excited to start their Visual Communication (Vis Com) lessons with Mr Jaime Saleem. With Mr Saleem, students created an essential agreement to ensure that students and teachers were aware of expectations within class.

6C was eager to get their hands on the cameras and started capturing the beauty of our school using the principles of photography.

Mathematics Groups

Students have participated in the Numeracy Essential Assessment to help measure their individual ability within the area of Number and Place Value. After completing the assessment, students were sorted into groups with students of similar ability.

Students have met their assigned teacher and have learnt how they will be using Schoolbox to complete their in class work as well as their homework. All students are excited to be extended from their point of need in their flexible learning groups.

Year 6 Polo

Students in Year 6 have been designing polo shirt ideas for their Year 6 Leader Polo. The polo shirt is a special honour for Year 6 students only, as they are the leaders of our primary school. It has become an exciting tradition for students and one that we look forward to continuing in 2022.

Three student’s, Molly Alker of 6B, Ansharah Sahito of 6D, and Mia Su of 6D designs were shortlisted by teachers for their creativity and connection to the school.

All students voted on the designs and selected the design created by Ansharah. For her excellence, she will receive a polo shirt free of charge.
