“Ours is a spirit of family and a spirit of true friendship formed by kindness and understanding, by compassion and mutual forgiveness, by gentleness, humility and simplicity, by hospitality and a sense of humour.” Msc constitution #32

During their first day back for 2022, each Monivae student received a prayer card. On one side they will find the Monivae school prayer, and on the other, the above message from the Constitution of the MSC.

After a couple of Covid disrupted years, there is a hope that 2022 will bring us a feeling of normality, and as such, the staff and students are planning to embrace our MSC ethos more than ever. The above message is a gentle reminder of what this means.

2022 began with a Welcoming Mass for all staff on Friday the 28th of January. Father Ted McCormack Msc presided over mass in the Chevalier Centre, it was a lovely way to start the year together.

On Wed. Feb 2, myself and a group of staff members, accompanied the Year 12 students to Halls Gap for the annual Year 12 Retreat.  The weather this year was fantastic making for a comfortable experience for all, and ease of sleep at night for the weary.

The retreat built on the experiences gained during the Covid interrupted Year 11 retreat from a year earlier. In fact, the current group of Year 12s were desperately hoping to complete a camp/retreat uninterrupted for the first time since they were in year 8 – a task they successfully achieved, much to their delight.

Mrs. Vearing, Ms. Ryan, Mr. Minney, Mr. Molan, Mr. Rayner, Mr. White, Mrs. Huisman, Mrs. Carroll, Br. Cay, Mr. Wheaton, and Mr. Forsyth volunteered their time to help run small groups of students through their retreat program at Norval Retreat – Halls Gap.

The 3 day retreat was facilitated by myself, with assistance from Mr. Molan and Father Bob.  It is an integral part of the College calendar and all of the students appeared to have a great time.

The Thursday night eucharist, with Father Bob, was a very special part of the experience, with the students placing their own image of God around the cross and lighting a candle during the Mass.

Year 7 Camp:  The Year 11 student leaders and Mrs. Jane Nankivell visited the Year 7 camp at Port Fairy as substitutes for the Year 12 leaders who were on Retreat. The Year 11s participated in activities during the evening and then finished with a welcoming Liturgy run by Mrs. Mailes.

The annual BBQ held at the Swimming Sports yesterday was once again a huge hit. All proceeds go to Missions / Charities.
