Careers Evening

If we thought Term 2 was busy, Term 3 is definitely going to reach another level and we kicked that off (just) on Wednesday this week with our second ever Careers Evening. We cannot express how thrilled we were to see so many parents and students not only investigating all of the options and pathways available but also continuing to support Lara Secondary College to create a culture of development and success.

For those of you unable to make it, we look forward to it being even bigger and better in 2023.

A huge thank you to all presenters, community members and staff that went out of their way to make this evening possible.

Work Experience

In the last week of Term 2, we had our Year 10s Work Experience participate in Work Experience Week. We cannot express how proud we are of the Year 10s for facing the challenge of seeking out employers, putting themselves in unfamiliar situations and representing themselves, and the College, in such an impressive fashion.

The employers were thrilled with our students’ manners, work ethic and employability skills. Once again, thank you to our parents, the Lara community and all of our employers for supporting Careers Education.

Morrisby Testing

Despite finding ourselves in less than ideal circumstances, the Year 9s participated in Morrisby Profiling this Friday. Morrisby is an aptitude and interest activity to support career exploration and decision making. Students who have completed the activity will be able to participate in one-on-one discussions about what their results mean and what subjects and career paths they could consider in the future.

Feel free to check out this sample report to understand more.

Course Counselling and Subject Selection

All of these initiatives and opportunities are chances to be informed and empowered to make decisions for future schooling and beyond.

In that regard, the next few weeks will be specifically focused on course counselling and subject selection. I will be meeting one-on-one with students across multiple year levels, providing group information sessions and supporting the subject selection process. We look forward to working, with you, to create the most suitable school program for our students.

VTAC Applications

VTAC Applications open on August 2, allowing our students intending to enrol in university to make their preferences. I will be briefing all Year 12s on this process and key dates, and, once again, providing one-one-one counselling for all students to ensure that they have a meaningful pathway and know how to access it. The information below would also be a valuable addition

University Open Days

A large number of universities and tertiary institutions will be hosting general and specific faculty Open Days over the coming weeks. Advertising material is placed in the Study Centre and Careers Library but access to every date is available on the LSC Careers Website on the Calendar of Events.
