COLLEGE

10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Surf Coast Insight - Celebrating Past to Present

Each week, we will ask two of our staff members about the changes they have seen since the beginning of their journey at Surf Coast Secondary College in 2012 to now.

This week, we will hear from two of our wonderful teachers Zoe Christie and Annaleise Reid:

What were you doing before you started working at SCSC in 2012?

"I worked at Torquay P-9 College in the Secondary Section, before that Nhill College in the Wimmera and then before that I was a Agribusiness consultant in the Western Districts of Victoria."

What has been the biggest change to the College since you started back in 2012?

"The size of the school. When we started we had under 300 students in the whole school, there was so much room! Now we have 10 portable classrooms! In the early days I knew all the students in the school and had pretty much taught them all at some stage – at the start of this year the only students I had taught previously were my Year 10 maths students from 2020."

What has been the most positive or influential moment during your career at SCSC?

"I think for me it is always catching up with what our ex-students are doing after finishing school, especially students I have taught in Year 12. I love finding out all the diverse jobs, courses and experiences that is happening post Surf Coast."

How has your time at the College impacted you both professionally and personally?

"Before Surf Coast I had not been at the same job or school for more than 4 years, I was still looking for the right challenge and the right environment. 10 years later Surf Coast still challenges me to think of the best outcomes for our school community. Surf Coast has given me so many professional opportunities and I’ve managed to teach every year level in the 10 years."

What are you looking forward to about the future of SCSC and your role working with young people here?

"Surf Coast continues to evolve and it is a really exciting time to be involved in the school as our rapid growth slows down. I really look forward to seeing how the next 10 years goes!"

What were you doing before you started working at SCSC in 2012?
"Working at Northern Bay (Wexford) as the PE Coordinator! "

What has been the biggest change to the College since you started back in 2012?

"So many staff and students, we started with just a few staff and students then have grown into a huge college!"

What has been the most positive or influential moment during your career at SCSC?

"The most influential moment for me was completing my Master of Instructional Leadership and working as a leader at SCSC. I love creative teaching and learning and really value a nurturing positive school culture. This qualification gave me skills and shaped me as a leader."
