Infants and Primary

From the classrooms

Infants

Welcome back to school for Term 3 – crazy realising we are already past the halfway mark for 2021! We have all been excited to meet and get to know many new students across the infants' department, and it is wonderful to see them all settling in so well to their classes and life at Boorowa Central School. It has been lovely to see our students taking the time to show them around and help them become familiar with our school – what kind and caring students we have here.

Please remember to label your child's jumpers and jackets clearly so they can easily be returned. It is great to see so many of our students wearing our smart new school jackets!

We hope to be welcoming parents and families back into our school again shortly, however as we all know, this is an ever-changing situation. We will continue to keep you posted!

Kindergarten

Kindergarten has welcomed three new students to our class this term – Kenzie, Kahlum and Grace (with much excitement having two Graces and twins)! Our students have shown kindness and consideration as these students have settled in, which has been wonderful to see.

This term we have begun exploring robots with Mrs Bridge as part of STEM classes. They all enjoyed instructing 'Mrs Bridge the Robot' to make a vegemite sandwich and became quite exasperated if the robot didn't understand their instructions! They quickly learnt that the steps needed to be small and detailed in order for the robot to follow them. Next week they will be programming robots to play music. What fun!

A couple of things:

  • Parent/teacher interviews – it has been good to touch base with some of our parents this week. Please remember that we are very happy to speak to parents at any time if a concern arises – please arrange a time through the office.
  • Fruito – we enjoy our fruit time each day. Please remember to send a piece of fruit in with your child each day – chopped and in a small container if necessary.

Thank you

Ms Mem Brougham I Kindergarten Teacher

Year 1/2

It has been wonderful to see 1/2 students return to school with big smiles (with a few more teeth missing!) and to hear all the exciting stories about their holidays. We've also had the joy of welcoming a new friend into our class.

In the coming weeks 1/2 will be exploring different points of view and learning how to write persuasive texts. The students especially enjoyed reading The True Story of The 3 Little Pigs, by A. Wolf last week.

This week in mathematics we are practising recognising horizontal lines, vertical lines and lines of symmetry.

After several rainy days, 1/2 were very excited that the sunshine was out for our first session of gardening this term. Lots of students tried baby spinach fresh from the garden!

Year 2/3

The end of Term 2 saw Year 2/3 soaking up the last of the sun before winter hits.

In mathematics, they have been working on recognising and continuing number patterns.

In literacy, students have been writing information reports about places and people and have created some great posters. They also composed some interesting speeches for their class mates. In physical development and health (PDH), we read a story about how to fill other people's buckets with kindness, the students then wrote notes to other people in the school to make them feel happy.

During sport on Friday the students enjoyed a session of dancing. We had a terrific time throughout Term 2, learning and playing together and we can't wait to see what Term 3 will bring.

Yindyamarra

Welcome back to Term 3. We were very happy to see our Yindy students return to school last week. There were a lot of smiles and excitement, we could not wait to share all our holiday news. With COVID resurfacing in New South Wales the students are working hard to remember to wash and sanitise their hands.

We will have a few changes this term in the Yindy room. I will be teaching Monday through to Thursday and Mr John Keighley our secondary Hub teacher will be teaching Yindy each Friday. Mr Keighley had a successful start last week and the students had a wonderful day getting to know him better. Having Mr Keighley (aka Mr K) in our Yindy room will not only be loads of fun, but it will also help the Yindy students develop rapport and establish strong connections between primary and secondary. Welcome to Yindy Mr K. We are so excited to have you in our room!

Warm Regards,

Year 5/6

Welcome back to what was meant to be a very busy term here at Boorowa Central School for our primary students. We are now scrambling to get information together as much as possible on rescheduled events. We can confirm that the Cowra District Athletics Carnival that was supposed to be held Friday 13 August 2021 has been postponed - with no new date currently set. We will communicate information about other events as we find out about them.

Thank you to all parents that booked a Parent/Teacher interview with Miss Downey, Mrs Corcoran, Mrs Miller and myself over the week. We appreciate it's not easy to do these over the phone, but your input and assistance is appreciated and will contribute to your child's success at school. Please call the office if you haven't had an interview and would like to discuss your child.

Jordan Grimson

received his Rostrum Public Speaking certificate for representing our school in Yass on Tuesday 22 June 2021. Jordan composed and performed a speech entitled 'I Took A Risk'. Our school community is very proud of Jordan's efforts.

In the 5/6 Class, we have begun our novel study on Wonder by RJ Palacio. This will be the basis of our reading, writing and creative art this term. We can't wait! In mathematics, we are working on the four operations and solving word problems. Please assist your children in revising their times tables at home. Times tables must be committed to memory before starting secondary school. I can't stress the importance of this enough. We've started to research food, fibres and natural resources in science and taking soil tests next week.

A quick word on SMArt and Drama Night. We had originally planned for this to occur on 9 September 2021. The school has made the difficult decision to cancel SMArt and Drama Night for this year, as we don't foresee any parents being allowed on site this term. This decision was not taken lightly. We are working on alternative opportunities for students to perform, possibly by video and posting on the school website. More information about this will come to hand as the weeks pass and we understand our restrictions further.

Preparing to Innovate

Boorowa Central has designed and built a new classroom to inspire and develop skills that are relevant to the jobs that students may encounter when they leave. It is a space to invent, tinker, design, create and recreate and we are very excited to open it soon. We are now after materials to fill the room that the students may use in these projects

Items we are after are:

Hair dryers, newspapers, safety earmuffs, magazines, foam/styrofoam, cardboard

plastic storage tubs even without a lid, jars, kettles, egg cartons, cereal boxes, toilet paper/paper towel cardboard rolls, marbles/ball bearings, sponges, aprons, fabric, clean plastic bottles, Lego, compass sets, funnels, corks, fishing line, drying racks both dish and clothes.
