Drones for VACS Club

On Wednesday of Week Ten it was lovely to have one of the Middle School VACS groups

visit Michaelmas House.  Mr Kyal Rose brought his VACS club over to Boarding to fly their drones in and around the boarding house.

The group performed a risk assessment before 'take off', identifying anything that could either damage a drone such as the ceiling fans or moving any item that could be damaged by a drone, like vases on the bookshelves. These were carefully put back in place at the end of class.

It was lovely to have the students visit with two boarders in the group, Eliza McNeil-Hanna and Owen Baxter-Holland.

Term Two Recreation

Recreation has been somewhat tricky in the latter part of Term Two with some wild weather in and around Albany, however boarding has made the most of any indoor activities on offer around town so that boarders could still get out an about.

Many of the Year Ten boys attended the cinemas to see the new release of the action-packed movie, Fast and Furious 9.  Reviews from the boys on their return were all positive. We thought this one might be popular!

The senior girls went out for dinner with Miss Ella Sloss to Three Anchors for something a little different.  The girls really do enjoy having dinner out! It's a time they can get a little dressed up, enjoy each others company and just get away from the school books for a nice relaxing break.

We have had a number of in-house movie and board game nights on the really wet and cold evenings.  Buttered popcorn, chips, hot chocolate and marshmallows were provided for these nights as a special treat, all were all devoured.

Boarders have been able to get out and about as well with a trip to the Skate Park on one of the finer days and there have been a number of visits to Albany Leisure & Aquatic Centre for a swim and slide session.  Gym games on a Friday night continue to be a popular activity to wind down at the end of a school week and the new found Paragon Games is gaining momentum amongst the younger boarders, particularly with the Anchorage boys.

Mrs Freeman made an impromptu visit to the Strawberry Farm with the Endeavour girls on one of her days on shift.  Looks like the girls really enjoyed their afternoon tea and had some fun in the playground area.

A group of Middle School boarders attended the Albany Entertainment Centre on Friday 25 June to enjoy the production of The Midnight Gang based on the best selling novel by David Walliams.  The story is of twelve year old Tom finding himself lonely and lost in the children's ward of St Crook's Hospital, away from his family and at the mercy of the evil Matron. Tom feels like he will never leave, but his fellow young patients have other ideas. They are stuck in hospital, but their imaginations take them anyway they want to go as part of The Midnight Gang. Each night when the clock strikes midnight, the gang go on journeys as they turn the hospital into the places they always wanted to go making their dreams come true.

We hoped to schedule the Ringtail Possum spotting just after the Term Two Closed Weekend, however due to the weather this was not possible.  We aim to reschedule this in the first half of Term Three, so if you haven't already done so, please bring a headlamp back with you to boarding at the end of the holidays.
