From the Boarding Captains

As I sit here in great disappointment and frustration, reflecting about the cancellation of Country Week due to COVID, I need to congratulate everyone who was going to Country Week. Each of these students put in all the time and effort to work hard and commit to training, even with all the early morning wake ups. However, we must move on, focus on what has gone well and finish the term strong.

This term has been long and jammed-packed with activities. A few weekends ago, all the boarding leaders, along with myself and Dan, participated in World Oceans Day Albany Clean Up. We spent an hour picking up rubbish along the marina in town and searching through all the rocks. We then laid out all the rubbish we had collected out on a massive tarp and recorded all the different types of waste for Sea Shepherd to use in their data collection. The boarding girls even got to feature on the front cover in The Weekender for their service to the community.

Last Wednesday night, Chef Tyler came over for Breaksea’s end of term dinner and taught all the girls how to make gnocchi. We started by mashing the potatoes and then forming the dough. We rolled the dough out and cut it into small rectangles. Every girl took turns completing a step then cooking it up. We topped it off with Tyler’s yummy tomato and pesto sauces. It was a great night for all and a delicious result for our cooking skills.

I wish everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday with their families, and hope everyone returns ready for next term.
