PROJECT COMPASSION

Thank you to everyone who donated so generously to our Project Compassion Appeal this year.  We have raised as a school community an enormous total of $1337.25.  This money will be used by the Catholic aid agency Caritas to help communities around the world who are in need of support due to poverty, war or natural disasters.

CELEBRATING HOLY WEEK AT ST JOHN’S

The Preps, Year 4s and Year 6s helped us to celebrate the events of Holy Week at the end of last term.  All the students are to be congratulated for the time and effort they put into these presentations.

Palm Sunday

Our Year Prep students performed a re-enactment of Jesus’ Triumphant Entry into Jerusalem prior to his celebration of the Passover meal with his Apostles.  The Prep Teachers did a terrific job preparing the students for this presentation.

Holy Thursday

The Year 4s created a video, recalling the events we remember on Holy Thursday.  The students recalled when Jesus washed the Feet of his disciples and they dramatised the Last Supper.  They also reenacted Jesus praying in the Garden of Gethsemane with his Apostles, where he was betrayed by Judas taken before Pilate.

Good Friday

The Year 6s took us on a Live Stations of the Cross or as it is sometimes known, the Way of the Cross.  The stations of the Cross represent 14 key moments in the trial, crucifixion, and burial of Jesus Christ.

 PRAYER

Easter is the greatest celebration in the Catholic church because it is the completion of the Holy week and ends with the resurrection of Jesus. Easter celebrates the beginning and foundation of Christianity. Jesus was raised from the dead, showing us that He has conquered sin and death for our salvation.  The Easter Season goes for 50 Days and is a time of great joy and renewal.  We are invited during Easter to know God more clearly, to love Him more dearly and to follow Him more nearly.  The prayer of St Richard shown below is an apt one for families to pray at this time.
