LONG SERVICE LEAVE

We wish Mrs Rosalie Baldwin all the best on her Long Service Leave break.  We look forward to welcoming her back Monday 22nd May.

SCHOOL REVIEW

Every 4 years all Catholic schools are invited to participate in a review process.  This supports schools to accurately measure their successes and helps them to identify appropriate goals for the coming 4 years.  2023 is a scheduled review year for St John’s and we welcome Mrs Mary Lovelock who will be overseeing this process for us.  Mary will be visiting us next Tuesday 2nd May for a pre Review visit and to complete the CECV Record of Review, which includes checking our Child Safety Standards.  Mary will be back again in Week 5 to work with students, parents and staff to complete the review process.

STAFFING UPDATE

We thank our Year 5 families for their continued support and patience as we look for a suitable replacement for Mrs Jessica Williams, after her recent resignation.

As you may be aware from reports in the media, all schools are currently facing a critical shortage of teachers, particularly those in the Wyndham area.  We continue to investigate a number of recruitment avenues to secure a passionate and committed teacher, who will be able to nurture and guide the students of this class.

For the interim the class will be overseen by Mrs Annette Palma and Mrs Kerry Lowerson.  I thank Kerry and Annette for their willingness to change their work arrangements to support the needs of the students at St John’s.  I also thank other staff who have taken on extra responsibilities to support the school at this time, including Ms Carole Aherns.

Parent teacher interviews for the students within this grade have been postponed to late in Term 2 and will be in close proximity to the release of the semester one academic reports. More details will be give to these families via the Operoo Portal in coming weeks.

ST JOHN'S SCHOOL ADVISORY COUNCIL PARISH REPRESENTATIVE REQUIRED

Last year we established our St John’s School Advisory Council.  The role of this group is to support the Principal, Parish Priest and leadership team of the school.  Corinne Landicho was the Parish Representative on the council, but with Gavin and Callianne now at secondary school, she has tendered her resignation. Therefore we are calling on any parents who are active members of the St Andrew’s Parish, to express an interest in being part of the School Advisory Council.   Please contact the school if you are interested in pursuing this role.  Thanks once again to our School Advisory Council members for their ongoing commitment to our school community.

SUBWAY LUNCH ORDERS

The school will continue our partnership with Subway this year.  This initiative provides students with an opportunity to receive a ‘lunch order’, that families have ordered and paid for online, prior to the day.  Our next Subway Lunch Day will be in Term 2.

CHILD SAFETY AND THE IMPORTANCE OF SLEEP

To view our Child Safety Policy please visit our school website using the follwoing link - View Child Safety Policy

With the return this week to school routines, it is important that students get back into good sleep habits.  Medical experts advise that school-age kids need 10 to 11 hours of sleep a night. Bedtime problems can start at this age for a variety of reasons. Homework, sports and after-school activities, computers, TVs, mobile devices, and hectic family schedules all can contribute to kids not getting the sleep they need.

Sleep-deprived kids can become hyper or irritable, and may have a hard time paying attention in school.  It's important to have a consistent bedtime, especially on school nights. Leave enough technology-free time before bed to allow your child to unwind before lights-out. Try switching off the electronics at least an hour before bed and keeping TVs, computers, and mobile devices out of kids' bedrooms.
