VCE and Careers Expo

On Friday 5th May we took all our Year 11 and 12 students on an excursion to the VCE and Careers Expo at Caulfield Racecourse. During this expo they had the opportunity to attend seminars and meet with exhibitors to discuss careers and courses, which included universities, TAFEs and a variety of employers. It was a great day out for the students and hopefully students were able to gain some ideas and clarity for their post school futures.

The VCE and Careers Expo made me think about what I want to do after school. Having the chance to speak to uni students and representatives from different fields of expertise helped me understand courses more thoroughly and allowed me to consider other options for when I finish VCE.

Trades Fit Expo – Young Women in Trades and Tech

On Wednesday, 10th May we took a small group of Year 9 and Year 10 female students to the Young Women in Trades and Tech expo at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. This was a great opportunity for those students to learn more about the different career opportunities available in the world of trade or tech. This expo was specifically targeted towards female and non-binary students as they are very much underrepresented in these industries and the students had the opportunity to try some hands-on activities and speak with exhibitors and attend presentations from females representing a variety of different industries.

Year 12

Please see below the dates for Year 12 VTAC applications, as well as when ATAR and VCE study score results are released. VTAC is the Victorian Tertiary and Admission Centre and where all Year 12 students interested in applying for university courses in Victoria will submit their applications through. All students will be attending an information session closer to the date and one on one meetings to provide support, advice and assistance through the entire process. If any students or parents have questions at all, please feel free to reach out to myself directly.

SEAS and scholarships applications close	Friday, 6th October
ATAR and VCE results released	7am, Monday, 11th December

Year 10

A reminder that our Year 10 Work Experience program will be running from 16th – 20th October 2023. Please encourage your Year 10 students to start exploring what they want to do for work experience during this week, as a lot of the more popular placements do fill up very quickly.

Careers in Focus

DIRECTOR (FILM, TELEVISION, RADIO & STAGE)

Average weekly salary: $1,816

Education/Training: A Bachelor of Film and Television or Bachelor of Creative/Fine Arts or a related degree, or a Diploma/Advanced Diploma in Film and Television or a certificate in Screen and Media.

Subject prerequisite/assumed knowledge: English is the only prerequisite to enter these courses, although studying Media, or VET Screen and Media are beneficial as well.

Film, Television, Radio and Stage Directors direct the artistic and production aspects of film, television, radio and stage productions.

Tasks include:

Overseeing creative aspects of film, television, radio and stage productions.
Assessing locations and staging requirements for productions in association with specialist designers.
Supervising the positioning of scenery, props and lighting and sound equipment.
Planning and organising the preparation and presentation of programs.
Assessing technical requirements of productions by studying scripts and discussing program content, set locations and stage directions with production team.
Viewing film and video tape to evaluate and select scenes and determine which scenes need to be re-shot.
Creating, planning, writing scripts for, recording, videotaping and editing programs.
Determining lighting, film, shutter angles, filter factors, camera distance, depth of field and focus, angles of view and other variables to achieve desired mood and effect.
Studying scripts and scenarios to determine theme and setting.
