Catholic Combined Athletics Carnival (7-12)

Congratulations to all competitors and reserves who represented Loreto at 30 March Catholic Combined Athletics Carnival. Loreto came 2nd overall in “A” Grade. This year’s competition was tightly contested and our results in the u/13 age group were outstanding, with Loreto winning the u/13 Age Group Aggregate Trophy.

Congratulations to our team Captain Noa Goddard (Year 12) for her tremendous efforts in the long distance events and Phoebe Neck (Year 11) for her selection in the 100m ‘Champion of Champions’ race. Special mention to Ashmi Dangi (Year 10) who won all her individual events.

Catholic Combined ‘A’ grade overall results:

1st = Sacred Heart College

2nd = Loreto College

3rd = St Marys College

4th = St Ignatius College

Under 13 Aggregate Trophy:

Winner - Loreto College

An extended thank you to the following coaches for their inspiration and assistance at Wednesday morning trainings: Dallas VonW and Ella Donnelly. I extend my gratitude to Mrs Hage for her assistance and support throughout the Athletics season, along with Mr Whatley and Mrs Mandy Braddock for officiating on the day.

SASSSA Athletics

Congratulations to all competitors and reserves who represented Loreto on 5 April at the SASSSA Athletics Carnival. The “A2” Grade was indeed a tough division. Our results were solid, given the State Secondary Schools’ divisions go from A to F grade. This year’s competition was highly eventful and our results in the u/16 and Open age groups were particularly pleasing. Results are still on their way and will be announced via social media.

An extended thank you to Mrs Hage and Mr Whatley for their assistance and support throughout the Athletics season, along with Mrs Braddock and Ms Baccanello who helped on the day.

Year 3-6 Winter Sports

Thank you for everyone who has registered for our winter sports – soccer, netball, basketball, volleyball, hockey and cross country. If you haven’t had a chance to register yet, please contact Ben as soon as possible at Ben.Johnswood@loreto.sa.edu.au.

Year 2/3 Swimming Carnival

Congratulations to Mulhall who won the Year 2/3 Swimming Carnival at a jam-packed Norwood Indoor Pool.

Every race was a chance for swimmers to gather points for their house. It was terrific to see all students jump in the pool and have a go, even the less confident swimmers.

Our Year 6 student leaders did a great job helping with organisational duties as well as cheering their houses on, providing plenty of colour (and lollies) plus enthusiastically demonstrating the tyre tow relay.

Poor Helen couldn’t swim due to a broken arm but worked tirelessly at the finish line, helping with place-judging and also handing out ribbons to the winners. Her efforts helped Barry win the Spirit Cup.

The carnival was not without its dramatic moments. Sadie Marks flew down the 25m pool in the Year 2/3 50m Freestyle race and touched first at the halfway mark. At that point though she began celebrating her “win”, not realising that there was still a lap to go. Misunderstanding the shouts from the crowd to keep going as victory cheers, soon Sadie had slipped from first to sixth place. Once she saw the other swimmers heading back up the pool however she clicked into overdrive, summoning Ian Thorpe’s famous six-beat kick and overtaking the entire field (again!).

The Year 2 swimmers in the 25m Breaststroke put some very impressive times on the board…however had technically been swimming Freestyle the whole way. A key instruction may have been missed in all the excitement.

In the loudest cheering competition all the teams won.

Thank you to Chris and Glenn for helping tally the all-important house points. It was great that star Year 6 swimmer Sofia Spagnoletti, who had recently been involved in breaking four school records at the Year 4-6 swimming carnival, was able to present the Winner’s Shield to Mulhall.

Well done to Molly Scott and our Year 2 and Year 3 teachers for running such a great event!

Catholic Schools Swimming Carnival

A team of Loreto Year 3-6 swimmers headed off to Burnside Pool a couple of Mondays ago. As seems to be compulsory at our outdoor swimming carnivals this term, it rained. This didn’t dampen the enthusiasm however. Our school competed in Section 1 and had a fantastic day, finishing in 5th place overall. Congratulations girls!

East Adelaide SAPSASA Swimming Trials

Last Friday a team of swimmers headed to Norwood Outdoor Pool for the East Adelaide SAPSASA Time Trials. Our girls did a great job, often finishing quite high up in their heats.

Our standout performer was Sofia Spagnoletti who swum in four events and placed 1st in all of them!

  • 12yo 50m Backstroke
  • 12yo 50m Butterfly
  • 12yo 50m Freestyle
  • Open 100m Freestyle

Well done also to Millicent Lyons who did well to place 4th in both the 12yo 50m Backstroke and the Open 100m Freestyle.

East Adelaide SAPSASA netball trials

Good luck to the Loreto girls who have been nominated to attend trials this week. Loreto is actually hosting the trials in our gym this year. It has been great that some of our senior school netballers have been able to help with umpiring and observing.

Grand Finals

Well done to the Loreto Diggers volleyball team plus our Sub-Junior 2 and Sub-Junior 4 summer netball teams who all played in grand finals last Friday. Our teams went down in hard-fought affairs but well done on fantastic seasons!

Aerobics

Our junior school aerobics teams have been training hard on Wednesday and Friday mornings. We have our first event coming up early next term, with the FISAF Super Series on Saturday May 20th.
