IELC NGV & Botanical Gardens

Prompt: On Wednesday 26 April, the IELC class visited the National Gallery of Victoria. It was an interesting day because….

I have never been to an art gallery before. We saw a lot of contemporary and ancient paintings and sculptures. I think the international exhibition was way better than the Australian part. We could see the real culture of a country. After the N.G.V we went to the shrine of remembrance. We honoured the soldiers who had died in World War 1 and went to the top of the shrine to take pictures. The view was amazing, and the city was vast. We could see the “William Barak Building”. He was an artist and an indigenous leader. We were all tired of walking and talking so on the way back everyone was quiet on the train! The only thing I could do after I got home was sleep! We saw an exhibition. It has two levels and a garden. The first level has many contemporary images and some famous artefacts. In level 2 it is vibrant. My favourite painting is John Brack; 5pm Collins St. This depicts the 5pm people finishing their work and going home. Everyone is like a robot. In the garden it has a vibrant architecture called the Temple of Boom. The last view of the city of Melbourne on top of the shrine of Remembrance. What an interesting day! Ryan Liu

This was the first time I went to the city by train. We went to NGV, and we saw a lot of weird images and artwork, for example a huge cat. I also saw naked people in the artwork. It was so weird. When we finished visiting NGV then we went to the shrine. We were so tired. We saw the city skyline from up high. TK Chusanai

We went by train to Flinders St. Then we went to NGV. We saw art exhibitions, ancient artefacts and sculptures, textiles, ceramics and paintings. It all was very pretty vibrant. We took photos in front of the exhibitions. We saw John Brack 5pm Collins St painting. The image shows people who are bored with their office jobs and look the same. Yuchen Yang

I saw different exhibitions. The first one was the top arts exhibition. There was a shape room and a light room. It was magical! And the music was so scary. The second one was the international exhibition. I saw ancient ceramics and sculptures from other countries. Here, I saw Picasso authentic work. The third one we walked to the top of the shrine of Remembrance and saw views of the city. The feeling was amazing. The wind was cool and on the land below people looked like ants.

My friends and I went to the memorial, and we also visited some sculptures, ceramics, textiles and those made me vibrant and inspiring. I loved the ancient ceramics from China. L like the sculpture “The Thinker” by Auguste Rodin. In the exhibition I learnt about Australian history and I also saw famous artists. I must remember this day and enjoy the day. I hope we have a fun activity.

I went to an art exhibition. There were many paintings, ceramics and sculptures. Every painting was created by an inspiring artist. The best VCE art students’ work was in the top art exhibition. Ancient ceramics depict our everyday ancient life. Many paintings had vibrant images. We went to the shrine. I saw the views of the city of Melbourne on the top of the shrine of Remembrance. It was an interesting day because we enjoyed the world of art very much. There were many works that represent contemporary Australian art. We saw many paintings with vibrant colours. There were also some famous sculptures like the Thinker made by Auguste Robin. I thought they were so vivid that I took photos of them. I even saw some ceramics which reminded me of the knowledge I learnt in China. And then, we climbed upstairs for a long time to the top of the Shrine of Remembrance. It was very high, and I was glad to enjoy the scenery of the city of Melbourne. After a whole day, we were all tired out but couldn’t wait for the visit next time. Nancy Qian

It was an interesting day because I went to Federation Square. I looked at many vibrant paintings like this painting ‘John Black’ 5 pm Collins St (1995). I thought ancient people were wise. On my way to another art gallery called International St Kilda Rd, I saw the William Barak building. He was an indigenous elder. His face was on the surface of the building. It was an interesting day because I saw many pieces of art created by year 12 VCE students. Many were so beautiful. Many people saw art with happy and admiring faces. I show respect for the artists because they were just year 12, but they created art that was so pretty and inspiring. The NGV had lots of paintings that were famous in Australia. Not just art, I could see the fashion of the past centuries. I went to NGV International in the 19th century in Europe and I loved the painting ‘Auguish’ created in 1874. It was an interesting day because the excursion gave me a chance to visit the exhibition of art and the Shrine of Remembrance. First, we went to the National Gallery of Victory (NGV) in Federation Square. I saw the paintings from the talented artist. Next, we visited the Shrine of Remembrance. We needed to take the tram to go to the Shrine. I saw the view of the city of Melbourne on the top of the Shrine.

Our class went to 3 wonderful places: NGV Australia, NGV International as well as the shrine of remembrance. In the first and second places, we saw plenty of vibrant paintings and powerful sculptures. Those things were amazing. There were also some ancient ceramics and contemporary textiles. We also saw the 19th century art salon, which shocked us all. In the last place, we went to the second floor of the shrine and saw the panorama of the whole city. We also saw William Barak’s face on one of the buildings. In the end, although we were tired, it was still a wonderful day, we all had fun. Zoe Ying

I saw a lot of sculptures and arts that I had never seen before. The beautiful thing I saw in the National Gallery of Victoria is the Temple of boom. In the middle of the temple there was a statue of a woman. After visiting the National gallery of Victoria I went to the top of the shrine of Remembrance and I saw the building of William Barak. We were together with my friends and my classmates. We saw many arts of artists, many interesting sculptures, beautiful paintings and many ancient things. We saw many images like ‘strong woman’ and it was from reality. We went to Australia NGV, International NGV and shrine of remembrance. On Australian NGV we saw Top Art of year 12 students and contemporary art, Top Art exhibition and I saw an image that called 5 pm Collin’s St, and it was about John Barak, on International NGV I saw textiles of Auguste Rodin. We went to an art exhibition by train. I felt excited. And I liked to appreciate the paintings. The art exhibition had many sculptures and ceramics. The class stayed at the NGV for a long time. The art was vibrant, and shared a mood with the visitors. I liked the painting ‘Anguish’. I thought this painting was inspiring and depicted a mother’s love. I thought ‘Temple of Boom’ was really interesting because it was a mixture of ancient and modern. Ava Xie

We could see lots of artworks like images, paintings, textiles, ceramics from artists in Australia. I also went to the NGV international, it had sculptures, artefacts from textiles, ceramics from international artists. It was so ancient because most of the things were from the previous centuries. Lots of artworks showed the soul of the artists. The vibrant painting from year 12 is delightful. And the last, we went to the Shrine of Remembrance to see the William Barak building located between the Arts Centre and Saint Paul’s cathedral. The building had the face of William Barak, who was an indigenous leader, and could be seen clearly from an aerial position. Vy Do
