Open Night 2023

We held our annual open night for prospective 2024 Year 07 students on Tuesday 2 May. With almost 200 tickets booked for the night, attendance was significantly higher than in 2022. The format was slightly different this year, with the focus of the presentation based around information that parents were interested in. When booking tickets to the event, parents were asked “What do you want to hear about?”  Transition, Hold Fast, Wellbeing and Curriculum were the areas covered. Members of the leadership team spoke briefly and were then followed by students, who did a wonderful job of representing Macleod College.

Generations in Jazz Music Camp 5-7 May 2023

It was the first time since the COVID pandemic that the Generations In Jazz event in Mount Gambier was up and running again. Students from Macleod College have visited Mt Gambier since 2004 and are recognised for having a great performance tradition at this event. The largest event of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, Generations in Jazz (GIJ) attracts school Instrumental and Vocal ensembles from across Australia.

It was a cold wet weekend; however, the bands were treated to some very hot jazz. They played well and had a great time. Congratulations to Isaac Parton for being selected to play in the “Super Band.” This is an amazing achievement and a real testament to all of the hard work that he has put in. Thank you to Tessa Bodenham and Elliott Gooding for going on the trip.

Live for Lily Fundraiser

On Friday 12 May, we held the Live for Lily fundraiser. The event was a huge success and consisted of a bake sale, sausage sizzle lunch and teacher ice bucket challenge. Many thanks to Lilian Tran and the SRC for all the hard work that they put in. Special thanks go to the staff that volunteered to get ice bucketed – Helen Spanos, Andrew Angelopoulos and myself. Over $1000 dollars was raised and donated to the Live for Lily Foundation contributing to childhood cancer research.

Sovereign Hill Camp

On Wednesday 17 May, most of our Year 03-06 students and staff headed off to Ballarat to spend the night at Sovereign Hill. I had the privilege of accompanying them on the camp. The students were an absolute delight, and we had a great time enjoying all the activities on offer. Some highlights included panning for gold, an underground mine tour and the spectacular AURA light show.

Clan Macleod

Recently the President of Clan Macleod (Victoria & Tasmania), Ms Leonie Ellerto, presented a new banner to Macleod College.
