Athletic excellence & sportsmanship at State Touch Footy

On Friday 31 March, 14 superstar athletes from NCS joined other players from the CSSA South Coast Sports Zone (ICS, Cedars, Calderwood and SHCS) to participate in the CSSA State Touch Football Gala Day in Milperra. A special shout out to Ollie E who was unable to play but was still an amazing support at the event.

Everyone did a great job with Kent E winning the U15 Boys MVP. There were a few injuries across the board, but nothing major. 11 students scored a try and many more set those, and more, tries up. Each of the teams played 5-6 games and found that it was a very tiring day with multiple people falling asleep on the bus.

A big shoutout to Steve, our trusty bus driver who left school with us at 5am. Everyone enjoyed pointing out the scenery from the bus windows; the very orange sunrise, surf conditions and the different shades of green.

Overall, it was a great day and we are all very grateful for these opportunities and the teachers from the four schools (including Mr Clarke, coach of the U15 Boys) that volunteered their time to coach us.

Secondary Cross Country Recap

The NCS Secondary X-Country Carnival was held on Friday 24 March. After a week of unfavourable weather we were blessed with sunshine and blue skies.

There was lots of friendly competition in our competitive races, House Fun Run/Well-being Walk & House vs House Touch Footy matches.

It was wonderful to see the students support one another and exhibit great sportsmanship. Well done to everyone who took part in X-Country - both those who love to run and those who made us proud as they persevered right to the end!

Secondary X-Country winners:

12 years - Summer

13 years - Caelan, Jude & Elsie

14 years - Zechariah & Annabelle

15 years - Kent (who also finished 1st in the House Fun Run!) & Emily

16 years - Hamish & Millie W

17 years - Noah T & Kayla

18 years - Rohan & Caitie

The top performers from our carnival have now qualified for the CSSA South Coast Zone Cross Country Carnival in May.

Another new beginning in Kindergarten

Have you ever wondered how a caterpillar becomes a butterfly? Ask one of our kindergarten students! We have been observing some chrysalis’ in our classroom and are delighted to share we’ve had 3 butterflies emerge. One of our Orchard Swallowtail butterflies was kind enough to wait until we could video it emerging, so we were able to watch the process close up as it uncurled its wings ready to fly. We have learned about the process from caterpillar to butterfly, and where Orchard Swallowtails like to spend their time. We have observed their wings, and how different the patterns are on the male and female butterflies. Both classes joined together to release our butterflies into the school garden. Would you believe we are still seeing them fly around our garden more than a week later?

Year 7 students of the week

Our very worthy recipients over the past couple of weeks were Laura B and Simeon T. Laura gives 100% in all she does. Simeon is always a support for others when needed. Both students demonstrate the school values of character, community and care in classes and with other students.
