Acting Principal's Report

We, at Miners Rest Primary School, would like to acknowledge the Wadawurrung people of the Kulin Nation.

We pay our respects and thank the Wadawurrung people.

May we share your land. We promise to look after it, as well as the animals and people too.

Ball Sports

We are all looking forward to wearing our colours and cheering on our friends and Sporting House members tomorrow at Ball Sports. This much-anticipated event will be held on the tennis courts and promises to be bigger and better than ever!

Families are very welcome to join us and sit either outside the tennis courts, or over on the basketball courts. Bring along a fold-up chair and your camera, grab a coffee from the onsite coffee van and sit back and enjoy the events.

End of Term

Term One this year has been slightly longer than previous years and we have managed to make the most of the extra time afforded to us, maximising teaching and learning experiences, as well as ensuring that we take every opportunity to engage in extra events and programs. NAPLAN, excursions, incursions, guest speakers, social squads, Leadership events, Teddy Bears Picnic, Pyjama Day (a staff favourite) and the list goes on and on! Please take the time to relax and enjoy the holidays with your children, knowing that they have earned a well-deserved rest.

Helping in the classrooms

Connect-Ed has concluded and our classroom teachers are seeking support in classrooms in Term 2. If you can offer a regular/semi-regular time each week to assist in supporting learning in a classroom at our school, we would love to hear from you! Adult support with individual students, or a small group, can free the classroom teacher to conduct a focus/conference groups, knowing all the while that support and guidance is being provided to other children in the class. Speak to your classroom teacher for more information.

Student-led Conferences

Thank you to all of our families for attending Student-led Conferences this week. These special meetings provide a valuable opportunity for families and teachers to meet and share achievements and goals. Just as importantly, it is a time for our students to have a voice in their learning experiences throughout Term One and to share their goals and focus for the coming term.

Coffee Anyone?

We have had a small, but very committed team of parents sharing their skills, and learning the process of using our whiz-bang coffee machine to make coffee. The plan is to upskill a parent group to confidently use the machine, and eventually host coffee catch-ups for our school community. Currently the team are practising and providing coffee to our staff on a Tuesday morning. Are you interested in joining the team, receiving some training, and working towards establishing a regular, social coffee catch-up for our school community? Contact the administration office and leave your details.

ANZAC Day Service

Our ANZAC Day Service will be held on Wednesday April 26 at 11:45 am. Our school community, as well as the Miners Rest Community, are encouraged to join us for this important occasion. Our school is also very proud to be taking part in the Miners Rest Community Commemoration Service on ANZAC Day - we will be proudly represented by some of our school leaders this day.

Welcome

We welcome Claire Woodfield to M4 next term. The children have been working closely with Mrs Woodfield during the past few weeks and she is very excited to join the Millie Team next term.

Thank you.

As the term draws to a close I would like to personally thank our school community for the  support and encouragement shown during the transition process of Principals and, most importantly, during my transition to the role of Acting Principal. Please remember that my door is always open and I am very committed to providing the very best support for our students, staff and families.

Next term...

We hope to see as many families as possible cheering our children on at Ball Sports tomorrow. See you then!

Have a happy Easter and enjoy a safe and restful break with your family,

Kylie Nissen.
