From the Principal

Meagan Cook

Dear Students, Parents, and Staff,

As we head towards the end of Semester One, I would like to take a moment to celebrate all the hard work and learning that continues to be a feature of our day to day lives at Cranbourne East Secondary College. Our teachers have worked tirelessly to create engaging and effective lessons that have challenged and inspired our students and I continue to be proud of all that we have accomplish together.

For me the highlights of the term are many and varied and I hope to highlight just a few in this edition of our Newsletter.

We have celebrated many achievements, both big and small, from individual accomplishments to team successes. In particular the success of our VCAL team and students in 2022. At the beginning of the term I was lucky enough to attend the VCAL Achievement Awards - Celebrating the class of 2022  and I was incredibly proud to see the following staff and students acknowledged for their work and efforts. Kiara T received the Koorie Student Achievement Award. Ashlea A, Tevita F, Hadija K, Dimitrios P and Chanel U received the Senior Team Achievement Award. Ms Sawsan Hassan received the VCAL Teacher of the Year Award. I congratulate these award winners and everyone in our school that contributed to the success of our kids and staff! Fantastic achievement and reflection of our strong culture and programs.

We celebrated Education Support Personnel Day which honours and recognises the extraordinary contribution education support staff make to public education. At CESC their roles are many and varied and we thank each and every one of them for supporting teachers, students and families. Their contribution to improving outcomes for the students of Cranbourne East is invaluable.

Staff at Cranbourne East Secondary College continue to be leaders in education, contributing to system improvement through supporting and guiding improvement for other schools.

This is evident in the work of:

  • Mrs Freeman, Mrs Jessop and members of the Senior School Team, who are leading a Community of Practice in VCE improvement.
  • Mr Heaton and Mr Darlington, who, along with members of the Mathematics Team, provided professional learning for both primary and secondary colleagues to inspire all teachers in the teaching of mathematics.
  • Mrs Hanna and our Teaching and Learning Team, who continue to showcase our collaborative practices to schools across the region. Hosting visits and engaging in deep conversations about the CESC improvement journey as part of her role in leading professional learning communities across the region.

This year, as we undertake our school review and establish our goals for the upcoming 4 years, we will continue reflecting on our successes and identify our next steps for improvement. During my focus groups with students they have shared with me what they believe our strengths are as a community.

The key themes that they have identified include:

  • The quality of teaching in their classrooms.
  • The strength of relationships between students and staff.
  • The sense of inclusion and acceptance for difference.
  • The supports offered to students and families in need via our Wellbeing Team.

Personally, I couldn’t agree more with their sentiments. Our students are our best ambassadors, and they continue to inspire us to inspire them.

I am excited to see what new challenges and opportunities arise from our school review and look forward to setting strong direction for continued improvement across the next 4 year period.

Let's continue to work together to make our school community a place where everyone values learning, growth, and positivity.

Meagan Cook,
