Our School Holiday Visit To The State Library

Gallery Image

During the school holidays, we (Sofia & Sarah) went to a workshop on storytelling in the State Library of Victoria. There we met an amazing author who writes extraordinary books for children. Her name is Gabrielle Wang. She told us true stories about her childhood which were breathtaking to listen to. In one of her books, ’The Hidden Monastery’ there is a fantasy creature called Peng. Gabrielle taught us how to draw Peng, as she has fabulous drawing skills. Here are some pictures of our drawings.

This experience with the kindhearted, incredible author will stay in our memories forever.

We certainly recommend her books to all of you! A great selection of Gabrielle's books is available in our school library.

WE REMEMBER!

ANZAC BISCUITS by Phil Cummings and Owen Swan

This is a warm and moving story of a family separated by war but the warmth and kindness of some ANZAC biscuits keeps them connected.

This picture story book is in the BPS Library with many other great ANZAC reads.

Thrilled to see many students borrowing ANZAC books from the library!

EJ SPY SCHOOL series by Susannah McFarlane

Book Review by Billie M. Gr 3B

It is about a girl called Emma Jacks. She is training to be a spy. Her spy name is EJ10. She sometimes has to skip school. Her friends don’t realise though. Her spy watch rings a lot but her friends just think it is a noise from the bus or the school. Emma has to do missions sometimes because Shadow an evil Spy Agency makes lots of trouble.

MATILDA by Roald Dahl and illustrated by Quentin Blake

Book Review by Sevdah S.  Gr 3B

I think Matilda is an extremely well written book, telling the story of a young girl with an unimaginable hard life. From horrible parents to being even more horrible. I think everyone should read Matilda to remind them that everyone should be grateful for the life they have.

Book Review by Alarah A. Gr 3B

I think Matilda is a really responsible little girl. I like that Matilda does those funny pranks on her father. Matilda loves reading and her dad makes her stop reading just to watch TV.

I love the end where Miss Honey, her teacher adopted Matilda and they were so happy.

Personally, I think Matilda is a really sweet book!

I rate ‘Matilda’ 10 out of 10!

I LOVE IT!

Book Review by Alarah A. Gr 3B

I also like a lot of other books from Roald Dahl, such as, ‘The BFG’ and ‘The Witches’. Roald Dahl books were inspired by the things and people around him during his childhood.

Thank you for reading my book reviews!
