Anzac Day Assembly

By hosted by School Captains Alice and Alexander

Last Friday, Grade six hosted our school's Anzac Assembly.

School Captains, Alice and Alexander spoke to students and staff about the significance of ANZAC Day and held a minute's silence while 'The Last Post' was played.

At our special Anzac Day assembly we talked about the soldiers and how we can remember them. We talked about poppies and Anzac biscuits because they were a significant part of the war and recognising what the soldiers did for us. We also made a wreath from poppies that every student from Prep to Grade 6 made. We had the wreath displayed behind us during assembly with the Australian flag. We think that the wreath was a good way to acknowledge the soldiers.

On the 25th of April 1915, Australian and New Zealand soldiers landed on what is now known as ANZAC cove, on the Gallipoli peninsula. There were 16,000 soldiers who landed that day, and by the evening, 2,000 had been injured or killed. The landing was a failure, but it was the strength of character the soldiers showed that we all acknowledge today. They were brave, courageous and committed to their country. Today we will recognise all they did for our country and remember their bravery.
