This is a school program that provided free dental services to all Victorian government schools.

You may have heard some information on the news recently about free dental services for all Victorian public schools. Smile Squad has resumed a staged rollout across Victoria. I have made enquiries regarding when this service will be available for Brighton Primary School and will keep you advised. Here is some information regarding the service when it does become available.

Smile Squad provides completely free dental check-ups for all students in government schools. There is no cost to you. 

Parents will have the opportunity to take advantage of this service for their child if they choose to do so.

What is included?

At the first appointment your child’s teeth will be checked.    

Then, depending on your child’s needs, services may include:         

• X-rays
• Fluoride varnish
• Scale and clean
• Fissure sealants
• A free dental pack (toothbrush, toothpaste and information)
• Advice about dental health and diet

If a child needs more treatment, like a filling or root canal, Smile Squad will contact parents/guardians and make a second appointment. These extra treatments are also completely free. The program does not include cosmetic procedures.

Dental hygiene is such an important part of general health. Our school participates in the Colgate Bright Smiles Program as well, which teaches students information about diet and good dental practices. The RCH also have health information here regarding Dental Care including hygiene and dental trauma, which you may find helpful.
