Year 5 Eucharist

Congratulations to our Year 5 students who this week have received Holy Communion for the first time at a special First Eucharist Sacrament Mass. It was amazing to see our community come and celebrate this very important occasion together. Thank you to all the families who attended and to Father Ian and Carmel Cristiano for their assistance and care for the students. Thank you to our Year 5 staff, Miss Annalisa Gourley, Miss Louisa Di Pietro, Mrs Amanda Norton & Mrs Ania Von Oxenberg for preparing our students for this Sacrament.

Year 3 Reconciliation

Congratulations to our Year 3 students who have now completed their First Reconciliation. Over 8 mornings, it was fantastic to see our families come together to celebrate this important Sacrament. Thank you to Father Ian for his care and compassion with the students. This Sacrament requires a huge commitment from our Year 3 staff. Thank you to Mrs Jo Howell & Miss Sophie Chow for preparing the students and attending all 8 Sacraments over the three week period.

CARITAS Update

Next week brings to a close our CARITAS Project Compassion fundraiser. With a week to go, I can gladly announce that we have already met our goal of $500. The final total will be announced next week - but our Social Justice leaders, Elijah & Jonah inform me that we are quickly approaching the $1000 mark. What an effort from our community!

Gospel - Sunday 28 March

 Gospel Reading

Mark 14:1—15:47  Jesus is sentenced to death and crucified. The centurion who witnessed his death declared, “This man was the Son of God.”

Family Connection

Palm Sunday, also called Passion Sunday, marks the beginning of Holy Week. During this week, we prepare ourselves for Easter by prayerfully reflecting on the events of Jesus’ passion and death. During this week, your family might display a crucifix in a prominent place as reminder of the salvation that Christ won for us. This can also serve as the focal point for family prayer during Holy Week.

Because of the length and complexity of the passion narrative, it is difficult for children to remain attentive when it is proclaimed in its entirety. Families can make it a tradition to read a portion of this Sunday’s Gospel each day of Holy Week, providing ample opportunity for children to ask questions and respond to the events described there. In this way, the entire week can become a “way of the cross.”

Each day during Holy Week, the family can gather in a prayerful space with a crucifix as its focal point. The passion as found in Mark’s Gospel might be read as follows throughout the week:

Sunday:Mark 11:1-10 (Gospel at the Procession with Palms)
Monday:Mark 14:1-11
Tuesday:Mark 14:12-26
Wednesday:Mark 14:27-52
Thursday:Mark 14:53-72
Friday:Mark 15:1-41
Saturday:Mark 15:42-47

After reading from the Gospel each night, the family might reflect on the reading together.
